ECU Diagnostics

Can error codes be pulled from an ECU even without the "Check Engine" lite illimunated? I'm troubleshooting a possible electrical problem (power seems to intermittently cut in and out for a couple of seconds while driving) and I'm getting some advice about sensors but I want to avoid replacing a working sensor. I was wondering could I run some self diagnostics and get a code even with an intermittent problem or does the problem have to constantly happen. Any help is appreciated!!

You should be able to get a code even if the check engine light is not on. I recomend you get the factory service manual because it has everything listed in detail (chiltons and haynes are limited with information and I know this because I own both). good luck.

You should be able to get a code even if there is error.
