EVAP canister valve install

i have a CEL with code translating to EVAP control system, which I believe means that I need a new EVAP canister valve..im not very "mechanically sound" so i called nissan and got a labor quote of around $115 for the install. first of all do u guys think that is a reasonable price and also how hard would this install be? could i or a friend with decent mechanical knowledge be able to perform this service?

Thanks for the help,
Tom

find a friend with some knowledge, buy a haynes or chiltons manual, and do it yourself

Two 10mm bolts, a few hoses and a plug. It couldn't take you more then 10 min. to install a new valve.

$110 is way out of control for that job.

How much does a new valve cost? And what codes were you guys getting? i just got a 0309 and a 0705. Do you think a new valve replacement will fix this? What about the leak? could that be b/c the valve is bad?

i think those are the same codes i had. valve should be around $30 from the dealer. most likely cuz the valve is stuck. from what i read you might be able to take the valve off and spray it down and clean it and not have any more problems, but for 30 bucks it wasnt worth the aggrivation to me. good luck

I was quoted $360 from the dealer for this job - parts and labor! I did it myself for $108.00 - canister and valve. You may not need to replace the canister, the valve unbolts from it (2 10mm bolts). $37 for the valve...call around, I was quoted as much as $64 for the valve. There is also an o-ring with the valve, costs about $2-$3.

I have very little experience working on cars, but this is something you can do on your own in a few minutes. Don't waste your money at the dealer.

I pulled codes 0309 and 0705 also. Went to the stealership today and they told me that the EVAP canister and control valve are on backorder. WTF, it seems everything is on backorder!

Wait Wait, First Isnt that valve permantley connected to it. Like molded. And what YEAR maxima do you own?

Nj, Would this have anything to do with a rough idle?? at all? Or engine starving for gas? I got the canister valve/purge selenoid and im wondering if this could fix something.

Get the parts online.
A whole lot cheaper then dealing with
your local nissan dealer parts dept.

Try:
www.nissanparts.cc

or www.nissan-auto-parts-dealer.com

Not much yet, my cars had a rough idle problem for say 6 months now and ive done alot of sensor testing and replacing. I just got this code and im reading through some threads hearing about cleaning out the evap valves with WD40 so im gonna try that soon too.

I got the frontleft O2 sensor code about a month ago and just replaced it for 85 bucks and now this code just came.

Let me know if you find something to fix em. thanksmwest.

My Max is a 97 SE. As I said, the valve is attached with 2 10mm bolts. There is also an o-ring where the valve meets the canister.

I bought the vapor canister and the EVAP valve, but it didn't come with any bolts. Did anyone else who ordered the canister and valve get the two bolts with it? The reason I bought the canister was cause the bolts are stripped and I couldn't get the valve out.

My bolts are stripped as well i couldn't get them out of the canister. Does anyone have any ideas how i can get them out. When i turn them with a socket wrench they bolts just keep turning but don't come out...
