HELP! When in gear, revs jump and fall! HELP!

Well, here is the previous story about my tranny...old thread

After I found that out, I drove to the beach (3 hours) with no problems, except the annoying noises. However, 2 days ago I put the car in 2nd after going hard through 1st. When I floored it, the revs jumped like the tires were spinning, but I seriously doubt my sticky 18x7.5 tires spun on dry pavement at 40-50 mph. After that the revs got down again, like it had been spinning, but there were no spinning noises.

Then yesterday I was on the freeway in 5th gear. I accelerated about 30% or so, and the revs again jumped up again, then fell back rapidly when I got off the gas. This happened a few times, but hasn't happened since. The revs jumped up so quickly and fell so quickly it was almost like I was in neutral. I don't think the car really accelerated much during the time the revs jumped. What is happening to my car?

When I was in 5th gear, I had been in gear for quite some time, so I doubt it's the clutch, but when I put it in 2nd that time, I had just released the clutch I think. I was told my clutch has about 6 months left to live....but I dunno. Can this be an indication of a gear going bad? Now I'm really considering buying a new tranny, instead or worrying about fixing everything on this damn tranny. Any ideas would be appreciated.

BTW, I'm now an official hater of the 4th gen manual tranny. What are the odds I can hook up a 5th gen (5 speed) tranny to my car?

yea, im aware of that. is that responsible for this problem though? i thought after the clutch was engaged and you were in a gear, the clutch didnt do anything for the time being (while in a gear). how does the clutch allow the revs to raise and drop if i havent used it for a few minutes? i thought that would have something to do with the actual gear. i hope im wrong though, which i very well might be.

i still need input about wether or not i need a whole new tranny, or just replace the clutch, bearings, and synchros. where can i buy a new tranny for a reasonable price?

also, what are signs of gears going bad? its been very hard/impossible to get it into 1st gear recently, but i was told this is due to the worn out synchros. is this true? thanks guys.

Your clutch is slipping. That's why when you give it gas, the rpm's rise but the car doens't respond.

My money is on the clutch getting ready to die. Test it this way, get the car going 35mph and then put it in 5th. Then floor it, if the car starts revving and not matching speed increase, then you have a slipping clutch. This test never fails

Make sure you baby it because the more you let it slip the faster your clutch is gonna go.
