Power Loss, 2k SE Auto. Any help appreciated. **LONG**
I currently have 73000 miles. Engine seems to be in top shape. First transmission blew out, and was replaced 3000mi ago. After putting about 2000mi onto the new transmission, I noticed slight loss in upper rpm power. It was hardly noticeable at first, but now its as clear as day. It was about the time to change out the copper plugs I was using, so I swapped them out for some NGK Platinums, gapped them to .044, and the car still seemed to lack the upper rpm oomph. I periodically checked the plugs, to check if running lean or rich, and the plugs always came out clean.
I posted before, and many suggested fuel filter, and so I went and replaced that as well. The car is all around smoother now, but the lack of upper rpm power is still as clear as day. I thought it was the VIM not engaging, but accelerating in 2nd and 3rd gears, passing the 5000rpm mark, the VI engagement sound is very audible and can tell that it is indeed switching over.
That was kinda long, but heres what I can't seem to figure out now. Leaving the car in first gear, and accelerating at about 50-75% throttle, there seems to be a slight loss of power at 3500rpm and then again at 5400rpm. It seems to accelerate normally, and at 3500rpm it sorta bogs for a moment, and then continues accelerating normally, then again the slight bog at 5400rpm, but from 5400rpm, its almost a dead powerband. Feels stronger between 3500-4500 in 2nd versus 5500-6500 in 1st. What makes the lack of top end power most noticeable, is during manually shifting the auto, before the power loss, the shifter would need to be put into 2nd at about 6200rpm for it to shift at redline, and go to second without hitting the limiter, but now, i can wait it out till almost 6400 and itll shift without hitting the limiter.
I aplogize for the long post, but I'm completely out of ideas as to what could be causing the problem. Everyday driving is not affected, only upper rpms under full throttle. It also seems to only be affecting 1st gear. 2nd gear isn't quite as noticeable, but its not like i get to get to the top of 2nd all that often during normal driving.
