Tranny rebuild failed - no 4th
Tranny rebuild failed - no 4th
I put the tranny back in the car and tried it all again. I have no 4th gear. Everything else is fine (and the grinding bearing noise is gone)
I'm gonna get dinner and then pull this freakin' tranny out again. I'll have the SOB on the bench fro the second time before I go to bed tonight.
anyone got any ideas? 4th sounds like it engages properly with the engine off, and when I'm driving the shift goes 'into 4th' correctly, but the engine revs freely.
I'm gonna try disconnecting the shift linkage and actuating it manually, maybe the linkage is binding (just put in a new budget Ypipe - anyone had any linkage issues with a ypipe?), but other than that I don't know what to suggest except pull it all apart again.

Set a new world record for removing a tranny. Started at 9pm, and had the tranny disassembled and diagnosed at 11pm. Two hours from rolling into the workshop to diagnosing the actual problem with the transmission disassembled on the bench.
Apparently I didn't put the lower c-clip on the 3rd-4th selector arm in the selector arm guide rod groove properly, because it popped out of the groove. That meant the selector arm could pull down and into 3rd, but it couldn't push up and into 4th.
I pushed the c-clip back into position, tested it and closed the case and it's now ready to go back in the car - but I managed to damage one of the axle seals so I'm gonna have to get a new one to replace that from Nissan this coming week.
