first gear ?
first gear ?
ok when i try to start from a stop in 1st, sometimes it seems that i have to let off the clutch to the beginning of the friction point and kinda leave it there and then slowly "slip" it up to get going (using no gas)
other times, the clutch seems "normal" and i get let up quicker
i cant seem to figure out why this is, but its really annoying because i keep stalling when it happens, and it'll be that way for a while, then itll be fine for a while
any clues

ummm...i cant remember when the problem started...i just started with a 5spd and basically taught myself. within a couple of months the clutch started to go and i drove on it bad for a while.
yes, the flywheel was resurfaced.
i will check clutch fluid tonite. should i try to bleed the clutch lines? never done this before but i just bought a haynes last nite and may be able to give it a go.
thanks for the replies

yeah i would definately say bleed the clutch also check in the faq about the clutch self adjustment / moving. that might be the problem cuz it seems like ur clutch is grabbing at different points at various times, right?
nismos...actually i came on just to post that the clutch was grabbing real high today...annoying cause i kept stalling
ill check the faq, i remember there being something about clutch automatically adjusting, but i thought that meaant the peddle actually moved to different heights not the friction point

it seems okay to me...
about the stalling, you're letting the clutch out too fast without enough throttle.
instead of remembering where you should feel the friction point, just let it happen...and get a feel for the car and adjust your driving techniques to suit it.
similar thing happens to me with my act when its real hot out, i have to rev to like 1.5k or the car bogs down, a friend of mines told me its cause the motors hot and the short ram in 90 degree weather doesn't help.
ok well i cant get the master clutch bleeder opened due to corrosion and can barely reach the lower one....
i cant get the clutch engagement adjustment to move cause its a cramped space up there (damn adjustable wrench)
this sux cause my clutch is being a PITA

i usually use no throttle when starting from stops for normal driving...i dont want to replace the clutch again.
the friction point should stay the same and not move tho

kind of letting the clutch up as i depress the gas pedal
our clutch is self adjusting...so things might change...but VERY VERY little and very gradually...not enough to notice a difference
Yea... I agree with Dev. I think its strictly human error, not a mechanical one. You even stated that you are learning how to drive a manual. The same symptoms that you describe happened to me when I first started to learn. The friction point should stay the same (relatively), but the way you position your feet could make a difference. I always thought the point shifted as well, but it was because I was using different parts of my feet to press the pedal. When you start in first, you should give it a little gas a well when you feel it grabbing... if you dont, and let go too fast, you wont have enough power to spin anything... therefore you stall. (i think)... well, good luck.
