Why am I so slow?
Why am I so slow?
We timed 0-60 in my Maxima recently. 9 seconds. What's up with that? I haven't had any engine problems with my Max; it is not giving me any CEL, and when I try to pull any codes it gives that "No Problem" code.
I just cleaned my throttle body, and I have a frankencar midpipe and monsterflow air filter. Where do I start?

What were you expecting your 98 auto to run? the 0-60 time showed in road tests is when the testers spin the wheels or hold the brakes to get the best 0-60. the time you will get on the street is more like the street start time, sometimes a whole second more. stock a 98 auto will get to 60 i aobut 7.5 - 8 seconds. a street start would be 8.5 - 9 seconds. sounds bad, but not in comparison to others when you look

my friends 99 GLE with 4 people in it (550lbs + driver) ran 7.8
The Estrellas are 16's! Man, this makes me want to cry. I haven't been getting the best mileage either (about 24 hwy and 17 or so in the city), could it be an 02 sensor?
I'm praying that when my Budget Y comes (sometime this week), I'll be able to install it and check my sensors to be sure.
What about the knock sensors? I have heard of them giving off ghost codes and the problems they cause not surfacing until other problems come up.

tune up the engine(get tune up), check your plugs, no big ghetto rims, clean your car out of any junk, take out your big stereo if you have one, and all those pay phones you trashed and stole that are in your trunk, run 93 octane nothing less, take out your spare tire and everything in the trunk - replace with fix a flat and cell phone, replace exhaust (y, b , cat, muffler) Then see what you do. Also if your fat get on a diet. if you lost 30 pounds if your chubby, plus changing out your exhaust to aftermarket 20 pounds, plus taking out spare tire and junk 30 pounds. that alone is close to 80 pounds , maybe im going overboard here but some of this could help you if you are concerned with improving.

Ok, I don't want to seem like I've made up my mind, but I'd like to know what you all think of the bad 02 or knock sensor theory.
Oh, and I don't have a stereo system at all, just a pair of crystals up front, and nothing in the trunk but the spare. If I ever go to the track, I'm definitely going to perform some weight reduction.

Go" I would get on it a little before he said Go and we got it so the car would come off of the line (on a street, not on a track) right when he started and I would floor it and shout "Now!" when the needle hit the edge of 60.

Doing that is so innacurate, you might as well just count off in your head.
9 seconds - .5 seconds for you to react after he said "go" - .5 seconds for him to react after you said "now" = 8 seconds
8 seconds is about right for an automax with a passenger.
Your car is not abnormally slow
