Tranny died last night, what are my options now?

Tranny died last night, what are my options now?

Last night after dropping my girlfriend off at her house my transmission finally decided to roll over and die. After a few months of making strange noises, such as a whirring sound while the clutch is out, a clattering when accelerating and really bad clutch chatter, it finally decided to stop. I can no longer put the car into 1st or 2nd gear, therefore making it undriveable.

I am now in need of a rebuild or a new transmission, I would like to know what are some of my options. I've heard of the internals of a 6-speed being put into the bellhousing since the 3.5L bellhousing won't bolt up. How much of a custom job is this? is it worth the time or money? I've also heard that the 5th ear from the Altima can be added, therefore dropping the RPM's while cruising on the interstate. Which gen of Altima is this? and is it a good idea to mess with the gear ratios? Would you guys do this swap?

Or is my final option to have it rebuilt to factory specs and live with it? what do you guys think, and input would be appreciatted.

is a vlsd tranny or no?The reason I ask is because there are plenty of non locking diff. transmissions out there but def a limited amount of vlsd trannies. When mine went, I got it fully rebuilt and Its better than new. Mine is an vlsd tranny. So if u have a non locking diff. , then you should check out car-part.com first to see the prices on the tranny.

You'd be very well advised to just find another tranny, letting it go far to long with bad bearings probably caused alot more damage than is worth dealing with.

The 6mt bellhousing does bolt up just fine, it's the mount that doesn't, plus you need all of the stuff to convert to cable shift (4g uses rods) as well as have a 4th gen cps wheel custom made for the 6-speed flywheel, there is other stuff as well, but just read the sticky in the all-motor section.

As for the Altima 5th gear, yup you got it, except I also don't know years, but IIRC it was the ones that came with a ka24de, which was maybe 92-99?????
