Just drove a Mazda 6
OK other than the fact that it has a ford engine the 6 I just drove would run speed wise with my MAX but it would SMOKE it though the curves. I am a little disapointed in me max now. Guess i will have to do some suspension mods
Mazda 6 got nothing on my Max except for that pretty solid suspension. I like the front styling, everything else its not worth mentioning. Well, if you want to push it, you get a V6 for around 21K which is a pretty good deal.

A 5 speed Mazda 6 versus a automatic VQ35 Max would be a drivers race. I actually think the 6 looks sportier than the Maxima, but I would buy the Maxima over the 6 just because it has the VQ.
And yes the Duratec in the Mazda 6 is a Ford engine, but only the block. Mazda engineered the upper half of the engine. Plus, the Duratec is actually a very reliable engine.

Duratec= Durable Technology?
only ford engine i like is in the 92 Taurus SHO... wait... could that be a ford engine? its highly efficient! It runs like a Japanese engine, i never really checked out the motor, but it seems JDM.

I used to know why it was done that way, but I have long since forgotten...

The V6 in the Mazda 6 is more of a Mazda than a Ford. And the previous 2.5L V6 (used in the MX-6 and Probe) was a very nice motor.
Right now, I think the Mazda6 is a better car than the Maxima. Its a better drivers car, that's for sure.

"This engine is a joint project between Ford and Yamaha and takes a circuitous route to its final destination in Atlanta. The castings are produced using a patented Cosworth process at Ford's plant in Windsor, Ontario, and shipped to Japan, where they're assembled by Yamaha, which sends them to Georgia. The two companies shared development of the engine, with Ford taking credit for everything below the head gaskets and Yamaha claiming the cylinder heads and their related components. Ford says this method is more efficient and less costly than setting up a separate engine facility in the United States. "

The 6 may look sporty, but its appearance lacks sophistication. One of the reasons I chose the Maxima over the 6 for my latest car is that I wanted something I could hang onto for 10+ years, and I truly would not want to drive around something that looks like the 6 when I'm in my forties.
