Just drove a Mazda 6

OK other than the fact that it has a ford engine the 6 I just drove would run speed wise with my MAX but it would SMOKE it though the curves. I am a little disapointed in me max now. Guess i will have to do some suspension mods

Mazda 6 got nothing on my Max except for that pretty solid suspension. I like the front styling, everything else its not worth mentioning. Well, if you want to push it, you get a V6 for around 21K which is a pretty good deal.

I was toying with the idea of getting a 6 instead of the max. But the 6 is a smaller car than the max, and I needed something larger. Looks like it is the same size as my old 2000 Altima SE.

But damn I love my max now.

The 6 is a very appealing car but I can't get over the fact that the newer mazdas and fords are basically the same cars with a few cosmetic differences.

test drove a V6 equipped Mazda6. It has a speed limiter on it. sorta surprised me..overall..a rather bumpy ride as well with some skipping around the road.

I test drove a V6 Mazda 6 before I bought my 03 Maxima...and there is no way in hell it is keeping up with a 2k2+ Maxima.

Unless its a continuous corkscrew, I'll easily make up for it on the straightaways.

Thats true but how many of us actually do the twisties not many of us at all. Most encounters are street light jaunts or highway encounters.

Exactly, and a few suspension mods to the Max basically negates any handling advantage that the 6 has. But good luck trying to get that Ford motor to keep up with the 3.5 VQ.

A 5 speed Mazda 6 versus a automatic VQ35 Max would be a drivers race. I actually think the 6 looks sportier than the Maxima, but I would buy the Maxima over the 6 just because it has the VQ.

And yes the Duratec in the Mazda 6 is a Ford engine, but only the block. Mazda engineered the upper half of the engine. Plus, the Duratec is actually a very reliable engine.

We ran the Mazda Revitup here and the 6's were just darn slow. Mushy suspension (both stock and with Eibachs) and no off the line power. Once you got to 5K the power kicked in and it felt great - terrific highway car. The auto's had nothing off the line though.

It wouldn't run circles round nothing that weekend.

That engine was built by Ford and assembled by Yamaha, not built by Yamaha. The engine is entirely Ford's...they just couldn't assemble it I used to know why it was done that way, but I have long since forgotten...

The V6 in the Mazda 6 is more of a Mazda than a Ford. And the previous 2.5L V6 (used in the MX-6 and Probe) was a very nice motor.

Right now, I think the Mazda6 is a better car than the Maxima. Its a better drivers car, that's for sure.

More accurately:

"This engine is a joint project between Ford and Yamaha and takes a circuitous route to its final destination in Atlanta. The castings are produced using a patented Cosworth process at Ford's plant in Windsor, Ontario, and shipped to Japan, where they're assembled by Yamaha, which sends them to Georgia. The two companies shared development of the engine, with Ford taking credit for everything below the head gaskets and Yamaha claiming the cylinder heads and their related components. Ford says this method is more efficient and less costly than setting up a separate engine facility in the United States. "

I got that quote from Car and Driver (http://caranddriver.radicalmedia.com...s/taurus2.html

The 6 may look sporty, but its appearance lacks sophistication. One of the reasons I chose the Maxima over the 6 for my latest car is that I wanted something I could hang onto for 10+ years, and I truly would not want to drive around something that looks like the 6 when I'm in my forties.

man ford is stupider then i thought... they build the block yamaha supplies the rest..it is a yamaha engine.. they can claim all they want all the internals are yamaha, and quality control is yamaha not ford...in my book that makes it a yamaha engine
