2000 gxe

I am possibly going to purchase a 2000 GXE with 35,000 miles on it. I was just wondering if there are any known things that go wrong routinely for this car. I know about the check engine light but are there any other things that go wrong with the car? I test drove the car and it drove beautifully and under the hood it was immaculate. I think its a good buy, trying to get the price down to $13,000. The price on the dealers web site was 13,299. Could such a low price mean that something is wrong wth the car? Car fax would most likely tell of problems had with the car wouldn't it?

thats not an unusually low price. its a 4 year old base maxima so its a good deal. pricing depends also on the color and options of it. that mileage is really low. tell the dealer 12,500 and work out a deal.

told the dealer 12,500 and to do a carfax, and put in writing that anything that happens to the car (Check engine light and anythng to do with it) will be covered by the dealership. Hes gonna call back within a half hour.

sounds good. but how can he sign something that says if anything goes wrong its covered by the dealer? thats like asking 4 a warranty from the dealership which isnt gonna happen. give us some details on the car your looking at.

Sounds a bit high. I'm sure they paid less than $10K for it in a trade-in. (They never pay you close to low book.) I'd try and get them down to $12K.

$12K and get them to throw in some kind of extended warranty. The car muct have been max $20K new, and average in $2-3k depreciation per year, yep it's worth about $10K. However, that VQ30 is a hell of an engine and if you throw in a Stillen Y-pipe and intake, that puppy will roar. Now, replace the rotors with aftermarket rotors and the pads with Stillen pads and you'll be rocking. Congrats on getting a Max.

yeah maximas are great, i have a 1989 SE and its starting to crap out on me so I decided to get a new car. I looked at civics and accords and the new cavalier but none of them even compared to the maxima! I love maximas and hope to have a nice long stay with my new one. I also hope to mod it too so I will probably be on here looking for advice, this seems like a great place to get it. thanks

i have a 2K gxe and no problems at all with my car with 50K on it. Just had the O2 sensor changed and got a ecu program upgrade on it.. other than that, no major problems with the car. Tell them to upgrade the ECU on it. Nissan released an upgraded version for your ECU to fix the bugs that were there when the car first came out

oh, and $12K is still too much for that car. try to get the dealer to lower the price. or add extras like fog lights or leather or other stuff like that

I have a 2k gxe with 131,000 on the odo and the only problem I've had is a blown autotragic tranny at about 48k, since then I've had it replaced and thank God no other problems, the car runs better now than when new and seems to have more power and definitely better mpg.
Good luck, I'd say go for it and don't forget to add a FSTB and RSB.

Sounds fishy, the miles are way too low in my opinion. It might have been pushed back, check for that. Other then that its a good car and you wont regret a penny you put into it. Speaking of pennies the price is alittle steep you should have offered them 11k.

Re: 2000 gxe

I bought a 36K 2000 GXE Stick last October for $13K. Car runs great. I think you can get it for 12.5 K or less. Just beware of the warped rotors as mentioned before. Few months after the purchase, I started hearing noises, specially when braking. I'm gonna have to replace them soon.

its not a major problem. some cars have a problem with fuel cut off and hesitation. An ECU upgrade fixed all those problem. Theres a TSB out on it to upgrade your ECU program.

cmon guys this is a very reasonable mileage for 2000 model year. This car cost 22.5K brand new, not 20K like someone said. While 13 grand maybe is a bit too high, but what you do is negotiate as much as you can. Start out at 10500+tax, and then arrive at midpoint, like 11.8-12.4 range. As you negotiate, push them to throw in extended wtty (read it before you buy it first-different coverage and deductables). Do not be concerned about fog lights and leather, fog lights you can add later on yourself for $150. leather- if you want leather then buy a loaded Maxima SE or GLE. Good luck with your purchase

I agree mileage is pretty reasonable
its low obviously but not that uncommon on dealer lots. I would run a carfax to verify b/c the practice is more common than you would think, and yes digitals are as easily rolled back as the manual odos.

Its thats the max you want go for it. I personally like all my options which is why i wouldn't have considered the car, but then obviously, I paid more $$.

I got the carfax and those are all the original miles. The car was leased as a company car in minnesota so I dont think it was driven too hard or anything. And also if I get the ecu upgrade i will never get the check engine light problem? sounds like an easy fix... did nissan finally address this and do a recall or something?

Just negotiate a lower price and you're in the money. When you're ready to start modding let us know. Negotiate, buy, drive and ENJOY the VQ30.
