Y pipes are the exhaust pipes that come from the headers (in most cases) It connects 3 cylinders and 3 cylinders to one pipe. Taking it to the catalytic converter, and out to the B pipe and muffler.

As for the SE-R Spec V....I test drove one, I liked it, but it doesnt compare to a Maxima. (COUGH COUGH) *hint * hint

Your asking that question on a maxima forum What answer were you expecting. Ofcourse is personally go with a maxima. The Y-pipe is a part of the exhaust that goes below the headers to the cat conveter. It removes the pre-cat assembly freeing up a good 10-15whp over stock. You might also want to know that in the future should you choose to get the rest of the exhuast complete the y-pipe will make things louder. Check out the link in my sig for a few sound clips. Btw- Get the 5spd

Y-pipe is the best bolt-on performance upgrade for a low price ($150-$300). You'll notice significant gains above 3500rpm

^ the spec v is not a cheaper version of the maxima... the only way they are related is the fact that they are both made by Nissan... The _Maxima_ is a cheaper version of the I30. The maxima and the sentra are in totally different classes. Personally, I'd rather have the Maxima, in a straight line a 5spd 4th gen maxima should beat a spec V but not on the twisties.

The I30 is an over priced Maxima. The maxima is an awesome sleeper car on the street. Think about racing cars and beating them with a 4dr family sedan. The Spec V doesnt have the torque of a v6. I test drove one as well and thought of trading in my max but could not do it. Good luck

WARNING THIS STATEMENT IS ONLY MY OPINION AND HAS NO BEARING ON REALITY:
dont read into my statement that deep, but both are marketed as sporty 4 door sedans available with manual tranny, personally i think they look VERY similar, if spec v's came with a v6 and i didnt have the money for a 3.5(like i didnt and still dont) id have bought one

personally, the only thing that seperate classes are options which equal more money.
