Paint comming off of the SRS airbag cover. WTF
Paint comming off of the SRS airbag cover. WTF
I decided scrub/clean the dash today and I guess that I scrubbed a bit too hard. The entire dash is fine except the plastic piece that covers/contains the SRS airbag. Nissan quality never ceases to amaze me. Is there a paint I can use to match it up to the dash again or do in need a new piece. Any suggestions on how much that puppy is gonna cost me?
How hard were you scrubbing?
That sucks. I never heard of that happening.
What color is your interior?
If it's black, you can buy black vinyl dye which matched the dashboard very well in my opinion. When I was doing my interior swap, I used this stuff to paint my passanger air bag cover, it hasn't faded or given me any issues yet, and hopefully won't ever.
You can't buy the air bag cover seperate (at least not that I know of) without the air bag. They are one piece, when the air bag pops, the plastic cover rips open and the air bag shoots out. I would not suggest seperating them.
If your interior is tan, there may be some vinyl paint in a tan shade but I would not mess with it because beige is very hard to match up and it'll probably be worse than it is now and stand out from the rest of the dash.
I noticed that the air bag never matches the dashboard that well.. Especially on tan interiors. Look at any 4th gen on Ebay. They are all a different shade. Partly because the texture of the airbag cover and the dash do differ slightly as does the material. Nissan screwed up there.
well.. i'm just rambling without giving you any concrete help.
How bad is it?
I have no idea why it would fade. Try some sort of vinyl conditioner used in detailing to restore it to original shade / shine.

if you cant get the color right, you next step would be getting one from the junkyard if it bothered you so much, but it will cost you. Since you have to buy the entire airbag assembly...
How hard were you scrubbing!?!?!?
and NYC max, my airbag isnt of a different shade and i have a tan interior...

Mine matches, I have the lovely black / charcoal grey interior though
The color and grain on plastic parts are sometimes layered on ... the base layer is just your good ol' white plastic. Scrubbing plastic parts was never a good thing, sorry. It would annoy the heck out of me too if I had that on my car.
