Disappointed with track times, Also, SR20DEN please enter.......

Ok I got 2 problems here.....

Well, I was at the LACR track ast night, got 3 runs, and the best time was a 13.89 elevation corrected. It was 87 degrees, 44% humidity, and 29.94 pressure.

Car was running like azz and my heater wasnt working so I was at 900 bottle pressure.

I wasnt feeling too bad becuase all the other imports were running HIGH 16s if lucky and 17s.

A Camaro z28 with 150 shot got a 13.6 and a camaro SS with a blower got only a 13.4.

dam this track sucks.

But to get to the point.. matt, SR20DEN, I did 2 really quick runs on the freeway before the track with the 125 shot and The car would go and kick nicely then when i'd let go, the timing would get retarded and the car would just be so f*cking slow.

This also happened to me about 2 weeks ago when my friend hit the button and let go twice under 3200 rpm. I guess the motor was trying to save itself. Do you know anything about this? Is nything like this happeneing to you?

THanks

Did you correct all the other car times you quoted? You corrected yours.

Why not post the actual time you ran instead of correcting it?

14.42 was the best time

out of 3 runs, 2.38 was the only 60' they got since I sprayed to early in first and spun the rest of the gear.

The tracks suck ***..this one is 3000 feet high, very humid, pressure sucks, very hott, and to top it off, the track doesnt really much cleaning on the nights available to the public.

But I mean if Im only .8 seconds away from 150 shot nitrous z28, i did good...

Im getting slicks in a few weeks, thats should shave off a good second and some..

mattt where aree youuuuuuuuu

You should have run a lot better than that. Yes , most So Cal track suck huevos grandes ! You must have a serious issue somewhere, because 14.4 , even under those conditions sounds too wack... Matt to the rescue !

well like i was saying above...99% of the imports were going high 17s..
and the nitrous and supercharged camaros were going 13.4's so im sure it was a track issue....

my car was f*cking pulling though! I was sure i hit low 13s,
giavoni, wehre did you run your 14.7 and what was the actual uncorrected time?

I never had a timing problem. My car always pulled like a SOB at the track. The only problems I ever had was launching the car without blowing the tires off and making my FUBARed tranny go into the right gear.

I just remembered you guys in Cali have that sh!tty 91 octane gas. Find a local place that sells 100 octane racing gas and carry a few gallons with you in a separate tank. If you have to use leaded gas thats fine too. Just use enough to get by then fill up your tank with unleaded gas as soon as you leave the track.

your track times seem to be within the general E/T's for so cal tracks. The SC and N20 guys here run times all over the 14's around here due to the low quality tracks and high temperatures.

Kloogy ran his 14.7 at fontana

its too hot man. 87 degrees is way to hot

you need to find a nice track with 60 degrees...around that, the lower you go the faster you'll go

too hard to get that type of temps here in socal. The tracks close down in the winter too for some reason even though there is no snow.

Sounds like the knock sensor was pulling timing, because you were detonating. You should prolly back off of the juice a little, and get a dyno tune with A/F before you try again, otherwise you'll have some of these.......

Thats what I was thinking, knock sensor.
Doesn't Jim run 115 octane when he does his runs?

it it was that knock sensor, wouldnt I have heard knocking and pinging? Some detonation?

I experienced none of that..

maximaman777, jim actually hs a separate 1 gallon fuel cell with 113 octane.. I was running 91 like a dumbasz, I had my octane booster, but forgot to put it in.

You won't hear detonation, they call it the silent killer. I never knew my car was injured until I pulled the heads off. I knew I had a problem after a bad night at the track, but I couldn't figure it out.

Wont kerosene work also. It's cheaper that octane booster and if you go to the track with a 1/4 tank of gas you could add a gallon of kerosene to it. Then when you leave hit the first gas station and fill up. I believe there are a few pages that have good info on doing this. I'll search and post some links.

I was wrong about kerosene. But see my post below for more info.

I used to get a 5 gal drum at the color wheel in Mesa, for $25.00, and mix it 1 gal to 10 gal of 91. That gets you about 94 octane.

what do you see on the heads? Do you have pictures of the damage? I know that EGT will be able to indicate detonation and right after it happened, the EGT will drop. Do you notice that too? thx
