brakes sqeeking after replacement!!!(why?)

i just replaced all 4 of my brakes with bendex after market pads and it sqeeks at light taps on the brakes. heavy braking does not make noise until it's about to come to a complete stop, then a sqeeeeek?

any ideas cause it's been driving me crazy all day long.

Did you use anti-squeal spray? If not, you will probably have to take the pads off and apply some to the backing of each pad.

I think its because the Bendix pads suck. I have them and wish I had bought Nissan OEM ones. I've taken apart my brakes completely twice, cleaned everything with brake cleaner, applied anti squeal compound, but it still squeaks sometimes.

You should lightly sand the break pads. It might help.

I think it is the metal content in the brake pads themselves. I think that Bendix uses "more metal" persay in their pads. This does slightly increase their "performance" and grip, but gives one bad side-affect, squeaky brakes. When I worked at a local shop last year as a part-time job, almost every other day we had people come saying their pads were just changed to Bendix and the brakes are squealing like crap. There is really nothing you can do about it either unfortunately, unless you just get a different pad and drop it in there.

I would tend to agree, because with OEM pads, I left out the shims on one side (non-piston) and there has never been any squeal whatsoever. I don't think it's too scientific--it's got to be the material of the Bendix pads on the rotors. I think that sometimes with performance pads (dunno if Bendix are) the buyer is advised up-front that it may be noisier than stock, so it goes with the territory.

You are correct Frank. The composition of metal in the actual pad is what REALLY determines the brake noise, performance, and etc out of the pad. Bendix, as I was told by their distributor office here in Atlanta, uses a higher content of metal to "increase" their performance at a minimum price difference from regular pads.
