"HomeLink" question...

This is driving me nuts...
I have followed the EXACT instructions to program it like 3 times, and the little red light flashes just like the card says it should, yet it has yet to open my garage door. Is there some trick I am missing?

I didn't have any problems... Is the remote for the garage low on juice or not held close enough or too close?

It took me a few tries to get mine working right. When you say the red light flashes...is it flashing really quick? IIRC it should flash really quick for a few seconds to confirm that it got the frequency. I tried a bunch of different ways of pointing my existing receiver at the Homelink one, eventually I got it by holding it literally 2" away from the sun visor and I already had the button on it held in when I started holding the 2 Homelink buttons.

If you have not already......try reading the opener manual. They often have specific instructions on "rolling" code openers....especially for use with homelink.

I know mine gave me fits for about 30 mins.

Yeah the red light flashed just like it says it should, fast, slow, whatever it said it should do, it did. It shows a pic of how you should hold the remote right up against the visor, so that's what I did. I'll try & find the opener instructions, though - that's a good idea.

When I programmed mine, it took a while because my opener uses rolling codes. And IIRC, to program for these you actually have to push a button on the opener (not the remote), which puts it into a special programming mode.

Listen to Padsy & Maximax, even though the Max has it's own instructions - follow the opener's instructions.

I have a Genie Xcelerator and the instructions are almost the exact opposite of the Homelink on the Max.

IIRC, after resetting the Homelink (e.g. Page 2 of the instruction card) do the opposite of what it says. Press the Opener's learn button first - then the Homelink's.

It took 2 people to program mine.
Me on ladder in garage holding in programming button on opener, wife in car pressing homelink button. Kind of a pain but that's what you have to do with rolling codes.

Programming the gate opener was much simpler - it didn't use a rolling code so I could follow the instructions that came with the Maxima.

I thought i'd need two people myself, but i instead parked the Max under the Garage door opener - opened the driver-side door and used the sill-area as my step-up to reach the opener with one hand and press the homelink button with another

Reset both the homelink buttons and the garage door openers. Then re-assign one button on the homelink to one opener and another button for the other.

If you can't get it to work after repeated attempts, the Homelink may be faulty. Try to program it using your neighbors or relatives door opener. If it does not program that one, take it to a Nissan dealer and get it replaced under warranty like I did. They put in a new one and it works fine.

Does 'Homelink' have to be reprogrammed after the battery is disconnected?

Most garages (e.g. apartments, etc) usually have an RF-type opener in conjunction with the parking cards.

Try asking the building management if they offer RF controllers you can borrow (usually for a monthly fee).

No...at least for an hour, that I how long I disconnected it and the Homelink retained the codes. Unlike the radio presets that required to be set again
