$20 or $9 for a part that can cause you to kill someone if you don't replace it and your brakes fail? I wouldn't question it- just pay the money and go for the stuff where you won't have to worry.
And change your brake fluid on a regular basis. the only time something like that should/could ever happen is if you never change your fluid and it gets full of water.

you should flush your entire brake system at least once a year if you expect to drive the car hard and the brakes to function properly.
the main indication is that the brake fluid is dingy looking. "regular" fluid will be a pee-yellow color when new. some other brands are different colors (red, blue, purple, bright yellow) for flushing purposes. you use blue fluid one time, then when you change it, use yellow. that way you know when you have new fluid coming out of the calipers.
if your fluid is dark brown or black, then it's WAAAY past time to change it.

Have fun, is all I can say. There are 5 lines there if you have ABS brakes. The gas lines and the brake lines run side by side. The way it is made its almost impossible to repair one line only. When I did my car all brake lines and fuel lines were replaced. The parts were pretty cheap, the part that suc**d was that it took me 12 hours to do. You have to drop the gas tank, and the front left suspension to access the lines. If you have ABS brakes it only gets more complicated. If you have ABS follow the instruction in the FSM to the tee to get the brakes bled. The entire system will have to be bled. Have fun changing them.
