Why wouldnt a 2k2 lip fit 2k?

Im curious to why a 2k2 front lip wont fit a 2k maxima. the bumpers are diferent but similar. Anyone ever tried it.

the lower air intake portion of the front bumper is wider on the 2002 plus the foglight housing is bigger.
