sx7r Need your opinion on these

You gave me some info before on a couple of pumps designed for oil/hydraulics. I contacted a few and these are the two I found. Westech suggested I use a catch can/accumulator for the pump to draw from so the oil gets a chance to defroth as it were. Can you detail if you did this? And can you tell me how you mounted this can?http://westech.home.mindspring.com/propages/scvpump.htm
http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/mocal1.htm
And of course the Tilton unit.

I suppose I could rig something right under the turbo's oil drain or even long length of hose. But considering I even need one of these means there's not alot of space lower than the turbo. Not impossible if the catch can can be fairly small but....

Anyway, thoughts?

I was just kidding Jeff. A long time ago I had done this and you said something like that to me lol. Anyways, I am also interested in this because I have something "big" coming in the mail, comparable to what other users in this forum have......sssshhhhhhh. Sorry to ***** your thread.

Jeff:

At one point I did have a catch can. I just used the stock catch can from an SR20DET and it sat right below my turbo. Currently i'm just using a 10AN line straight from the turbo into the scavenge pump. I just found it to be a much cleaner setup. As far as "a puff of smoke on startup" due to oil accumulation in the turbo bearings, it's non existant. My oil feed line is 4AN. I figure whatever oil is left in there after i shut off my engine will drain into my 10AN drain line and be just fine. It's apparently not an issue, as I've never had a problem with my setup. These pumps do tend to be loud. I can hear it in the cabin at idle, whirring away.

Basically what this does is helps in pulling oil from the turbo and getting it into the Oil pan or wherever youve chosen as the oil drainback. This avoids any issues caused in simple gravity flow drainback lines where the oil basically goes down into the pan just because of gravity. Also these pumps help to de-froth the oil coming out the turbo. By that I mean when the oil exits the turbo from being in 25,000-100,000+ rpm speeds, its becomes very frothy and doesnt flow well.

Current 4-gen applications in kit form do not need to do this. 3-gen VG applications do not need this. 4sign's VE application does not need this. Some others "might" need this.
