OSCAI - Confirmed, Please read!
That 2001 Maxima's DO NOT have the Damn L-PIPE ... the intake Itself DOESN'T even have a HOLE where the L-PIPE would be! It has the "Y" Split ... it just doesn't have a HOLE!!
its just a large Empty Plastic Space with the bottom SEALED off!!!
HERE are the OPTIONS:
1) Saw a bit off the bottom of the the "Y" slit so I DO have a hole for the OSCAI!
2) ANYONE with a SI or CAI want to SELL ME their OLD Stock INTAKE?????????????????????????
I'm SERIOUS!!!!!!!
3) Gonna call my Dealer tomorrow and Order the INTAKE for the 2000 Max's!!!!!!!!!

I definitely think cutting the bottom off the Y and adding a tube to a cool air source is your best bet. The opening to the scoop seems too small and restrictive. Now I just need to buy someones scoop and anytime I need to go to a dealer I can easily switch back to stock. Sounds a lot easier than swaping back to stock with the OSCAI.
Cutting is the most Economical way ... BUT then again ... if I get any problems and I take it back to the dealer ... they will see that I CUT it myself ... NOT GOOD!
So I'm probably gonna go BUY a 2K SCOOP!!!!!
Then I can SWAP like you said!

For me: warranty... warranty... warranty...
My dealer asked me to take off the cone intake I had on the car. Just imagine the excitement over a Place Racing CAI. The SCAI can easily be removed prior to service.

I think im gonna cut it... and try to get another scoop just in case if i have to go in for service.. i wonder how much these things can cost in at the dealership... well i will cut it anyway... gonna do it soon too.. hopefully this week, before the weekend... and i will try to get a new scoop asap if i have to take a trip to dealer... i wonder if we will get the same results adding a pipe straight to taht space instead of going through the white box and all... well i guess itll just be a case of trial and error...
Well.. if you make the cut clean and be sure your tubing is easy to remove.. I doubt the service dept will even notice it at all. The white box has only one opening so I don't really know how air would flow through it at all. Good luck and feel free to email me if you have questions.
thanks... did u figure out what kinda tubing u gonna use? i myself was thinking what is smooth and flexible... and i can figure it out.. unless u gonna cut pvc pipes and use elbow joints and all that stuff to connect it to fit exactly the way u want it i think what u have is the best thing to use... i really doubt that it will make a big difference... btw what kind of tubing do they use in lets say a JWT Pop charger or a stillen intake?
btw punkdork where does ur other end go? where did u stick it to get the cold air from? do u think if i make a tube go straight down and cut a whole in the plastic under the car and angle it a little will it work and draw cold air? or shall i make the pipe go to the front in the spaces in between where the fogs go? gimme some feedback guys
Well.. if you have the fogs, I wouldn't remove one for this mod.
I am going to use just pvc and run it straight down. I don't know if I'm going to cut the splash guard or not. I'd assume the ambient temperature in the lower part of the engine bay where my tube ends would be much cooler than where the pop charger draws from.
If you want to get really fancy, you can route from the fog light area or possibly as Kev suggested, set it up so the radiator fan blows into it... but thats hot air again. Unfortunately the radiator takes up the whole front of the car... no fresh air getting by it.

2) Route it behind the radiator (warm air)
3) Cut a hole on the bottom and route it there. Angle the hose so that the opening is facing forward (but you'll get a lot of crap on your filter because it's getting air from outside
#3 seems to be the best choice because you have an SE, otherwise #1 would be very nice.

ye thats just what i was thinking kev... i am wondering what would be better more air or cold air... what is good about putting it behind the radiator is taht it wont suck up all the dirt and water like it would from the bottom of the car... but i still dont know where to put it...
I thought about it for a bit....Well, the radiator fans really don't turn on all the time. They cycle on and off depending on ambient temperature and how hot the radiator is. So, at high speeds, most likely they are off and you are just getting air through the radiator fins which is hot. Actually, the fans really only turn on at idle. Your best bet is probably to stick the end of the tube in the bottom of the fender somewhere. I wouldn't make it so that it is sticking out in the open air since you will suck up a lot of dust and crap.
