As some of you my know, I'm trying to sell my car. However...Bags gave me some advice on shiznit...like droppin a VE in my VG.

So, here's the 411:
-1990 GXE
-80k miles
-Good overall condition..(click homepage to see pics)

I just recently f*cked up my passenger front suspension, I'm goin to need a new CV Axle, new struts, and a new lower control arm.

But, my car is paid off - now, is a VE a good option for me? Bags told me I could probly get out the door w/ a VE and a manual tranny for about $1k...is this accurate?

Even though I'm in love w/ the 97+ models...I do love 3rd gens too. Just the fact that I dont have a lot of power made me want to get a 4th gen.

Any help on where I can get this and look at all the costs of everything I want will be greatly appreciated.

WHAT I WANT:
VE Motor with +/- 100k miles
VE manual tranny

Bro you'd need a parts car to even consider a swap like this. Its not just the engine that is different, the wire harness is different too. Hell if you do find a parts car go for it.

 

If you can get a VE five speed parts car, I would think you could do it. However, that's the only way I would even try it. Otherwise? Fuggedaboutit

BTW, finding a VE five speed with around 100k for a grand is pretty rare I would say

Bijan, I have a VE in my garage (in multiple parts, but still) along with the full, unmolested wiring harness, and the ecu, and 2 other boxes, but I forget what they do (hmmm).

The Engine is from an automatic, so it doesnt have the variable intake, but still....


Aside from electronics, arent the engine bays the same? I was thinking about this a few months ago. For actually mounting the engine, wouldnt one just need the VE engine mounts, then the drive train from a VE?


Now, in all honesty, I do think that by the time it is all done, you will have spent more money that you will never see again compared to just trying to sell the car and buy a VE or VQ (just decide which one suits you better and how much the looks matter for you).

otherwise, you're going to spend $1000 for the engine, $1000 for the tranny, $500 on clutch parts, months of downtime, and you STILL won't even begin to have it running.
think before you post, please. just give it up and buy a VE.

hmmmmm... Why not Just buy a SE.

PS. Just so you know. The 92-94 SE's have the same hp as a 95-99. (VQ) So unless you want the newer body style, buy a SE.

 

Bijan, I would suggest taking some time to think about what your intentions really are (like maybe even a year or two down the road?) If the car is paid off, why get yourself back into monthly payment mode and have to carry full coverage on insurance? I've been down this road multiple times and I have thanked God each time that I did not borrow more money unnecessarily. It seems like you have some relationships with some knowledgeable .org members who I'm sure will be willing to help you get your car back on the road at minimal costs. Then, in the mean time, you can save money and buy something that you have thought long and hard about. Take it from someone who knows, compulsive purchases, whether on an auto or otherwise, never seem to work out. There's my 2 cents so take it for what its worth.
