Vortech FMU disk change

Anyone else ever run into a problem where the recalibration kit wouldn't fit? I bought the Vortech 8:1 setup from Summit. The ring that's supposed to fit around the 4 screwheads that hold the valve in place won't fit over said screws.

Most of those Rings to two discs. Like when it goes inside the ring is it the smaller and when it sits on top of the ring in the recess, its the larger of the two.

Seems like you might have the wrong ring size.

Hmmm...I think I need to clarify.
The disk fits perfectly into the recessed side of the ring.
The ring with the recess on one side and the small notch on the other, won't fit around the 4 screw heads inside the FMU.

The extra disk and ring I got from Vortech was like that. I was able to force the ring over the screw heads. It didn't take much force, though. It kind of snapped into place. The original ring fits fairly loose.

It didn't have a ring inside when I opened but maybe that's because it was a 12:1 setup? I can't get this one to snap in place even. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Dremel time. On the ring, that is, not the screws.

Dremel would be the best option, just make sure that you do nothing on the inside. Just make sure from the top it looks completely OEM. Otherwise the disc wont work if there is a small hole or cut in it from over dremelling.

Won't work - there's no way to get this thing on there. Trust me, I tried. Summit is sending me a replacement. I called Vortech too and neither tech there had heard of the problem on any of the units they assemble there. I'm just hoping it's a manufacturing escape and that all will be well with the next one. If two in a row don't fit, then the FMU is the problem and that'll need to be replaced.

Man that makes me think what the hell did Summit sell you? Cause I remember I got the entire disc calibration kit from Vortech for $45 and all the rings and disc fit fine. Makes me think if summit has someone manfucaturing them or what? Cause they dont seem like vortech products being re-sold.

I dunno - maybe I'll go the route of ordering direct from Vortech before I press PFI for a new FMU. Summit says the parts are from Vortech but that was the sap taking phone orders and hooking me up through customer service.

Measure the bolt circle diameter of the screws in the fmu, and the diameter of the screw heads and post the results. I'll compare with mine. Also measure the diameter of the 8:1 ring. We'll get to the bottom of this.

I had the EXACT same problem, and I ordered my recalib. kit direct from vortech with all the discs. The rings were too small to fit over the 4 bolts, so I took a file and just filed away on them until they would fit. Definately took a little time and its a pain everytime i want to switch to a new ring for the first time on that one haha... but it works 100%

I was told by vortech that apparently they had a TINNY bit different setup on older fmu's.. and that was the cause for the "new" discs not to fit.

ps. if you file them down, make sure to get all the little shavings out. good luck

Measuring straight across, I got 1-11/32" from outer edge to outer edge of the screw heads.

Measuring diagonally, I got 1-25/32" from outer edge to outer edge of the screw heads.

The screwheads themselves measured at 1/4". Those are as accurate as I could get.

I forgot to measure the farkin' ring - I was in a rush to head off to work.

EDIT: The ring is exactly 1-24/32" or 1-3/4". I remeasured across the bolts and got 1-26/32" or 1-13/16" this time around. Sure seems like I should be able to shave off that much but what a PITA!!!
