Taking out S/C
Taking out S/C
thinking about taking out my supercharger. does anyone know how much they charge? or how many hrs it will take? or any sites where it teaches you how to do it yourself! please help!
There is a guy up here in Toronto named Daniel who's got a V1 on his 2k. It can and will fit, however it will REQUIRE minor custom fabrication. I don't know the extent of it, so if you can't afford to plunk down an extra 200-1000 bucks getting it "modded", don't buy it.
As said, removal should be $400-1000ish. The hard question here however, coming from someone who's installed a used SC, is getting it off the car in a condition that's acceptable to sell. You can yank the thing off in acouple of hours, but getting all the parts off in perfect, workable condition for transfer to another vehicle is a whole different ballgame. Make sure the mechanic you give this job to is someone you trust, otherwise you will run into an unhappy buyer in the future.

Rob, I think maxi was trying to illustrate a "typical" kit... not a custom install - agreed a V1 can "fit" - you can get a Berk intake kit and staple the blower to the car, however to make it run properly, Daniel paid about $3500US.. at that amount you might as well buy a V2 kit brand new. It just doesn't make any sense to do! Then again back in his time, no S/C kit was yet available for the 5th gen - he had the blower installed with about 3k miles on the car I believe... but I can't see expenses being below 3k US to retrofit a V1 kit to fit onto a V2... heck it's not a "retrofit" - it's a matter of ordering all the parts.
And buying a kit used... many people have and getting the parts shouldn't be a problem - all the necessities are there.. the hoses or other "small things" you can get anywhere for pennies compared to the final parts+labour.
