Hella Supertones installed today

I received my 113db 300/375Hz Hella Supertones today and installed them in my Max. They definitely live up to their claims of being the loudest and most distinctive horns you can buy for any car. One thing that surprised me though, is the pitch of the horn itself is not that much different (a tiny bit deeper), its just 10,000,000 times louder.

Few things that I ran into during install:

1. Due to the larger size of each horn unit, I was unable to fit one of htem on the right side of the vehicle under the airbag sensor. The left one (not sure which horn it was) fit just fine with a bit of gentle persuasion (the bracket was bent back so the horn is at an angle iwth the radiator). The other horn I have mounted up by my intake on the edge of the strut mount (kinda).

2. These are some damn loud horns.

I'll have pictures and a sound clip up soon. If you are looking for a more agressive way to express yourself from the comfort of your drivers seat, don't buy a CAI, buy Hella Supertones.

I got mine about 2 years ago, for about $60. They kick **** big time!

I can cause an accident with them.

I made an extended mount for the second horn to fit below the air bag sensor.

Did you use the stock wiring? I went ahead and used the supplied relay, but only used the stock wiring for the relay trigger. I ran a pos and neg wire to supply the real juice. Those horns draw a lot of power, they'll play considerable louder with upgraded wiring.

The horns that I have are 300/500 Hz. I wonder how differently your sound.

I didn't even bother with the relay. Given the short bursts we tend to use our horns for and the thickness of the wiring, I feel the stock relay and wiring can handle what these Supertones need. I just plugged mine in, bent the brackets to form an elongated S shape and they sit squarely between the radiator and grille.

The other thing I couldn't resist doing was respraying the horn guards black. That red would just look so FUGLY on a pearl white paintjob.

No way dude, you dont know what your missing! The stock wiring is like 20ga. This horn draw like 15-20amps. Even with short bursts the voltage drop will be considerable.

Hey Eric, aren't you afraid the noise & vibration from that horn will affect your airbag sensor and caused it to deploy your airbag?

I doubt the damn thing even works

There was a recall on the sensor a long time ago, I seriously doubt it was done.

It would probably need to get struck with a hammer before it did anything.

No problem here man. The horns are as loud as f__k as they ought to be. The wiring isn't that thin, at least not on my Max, and the run is a reasonably short one from the battery too, thereby making the voltage drop negligible.

How loud are the ones you got? I see ones on ebay that are 113 and 118 db. I also found different brands that are 130+ db. I guess hella is a good brand though?
