*I THINK* I found the cause of my high EGT at partial throttle

Hi all...in case you guys missed it in gerenal forum. I recently got my bpipe fixed and the crushed section cut off. I aslo ask the muffler shop to fix the ypipe because one of the hanger brackets was not bolted. I initially thought it was the cause of the intermittent rattling noise I had since the blower was installed. But it got worst after the work was completed...the rattling noise happens during idling instead of accelerating. It brought other problem too: when my car was fully loaded with 4 peeps on Wednesday, the pedal was vibrating/buzzing and my co-worker told me the floor was vibrating.

anyways....I took off the cat and I found two pieces of metal(see above). one seems to be a pipe and they were located between the cat and ypipe. Once they are off the car, the rattling was gone and mid range accelrating was a bit better (no boosting). Before if I partail throttle the car and the EGT will go up to 780. now it wont~ it only go up to 710c when I partial throttle to 85mph.

the cause: bad exhaust flow!

any comment?

I still try to figure out WTF are those two piece of metal doing there and where the hell are they from? my initall guess was the stock ypipe until I heard the rattling agan this morning during accelerating..... I am now guessing this is from the precat (some 2k and all 2k1 have this precat right after the front exhaust manifold).

the rattling in my car was from the car gutting my RT cat.
I guess the car knows what it needs and gutted the cat for me. lol
I sopoke with the tech guy at RT and he said the the basket in the RT is made of ceramic material and that when you run too rich or too lean (when I was detonating) it will start to gutt the cat and once it starts it doesn't stop until it is done.
They are going to be making me a custom cat made of all metal to prevent that.
I am not 100% sure they are telling me the truth but it makes sense to me.

Do you have a RT cat? If so this may be happening to you.

Hi Gabe:
I still have stock cat. but my cat seems to be in good shape. I doubt those two pieces of metal are from the main cat. my first guess was from the stock ypipe. But now I am clueless after the rattling happened again today. I know if the cat is being gutted, it will have a rattling sound almost every time you step on the gas. but my rattling does not have all the time...probably 1 out of 10 times.

oh~ how's your new engine running? have you put the SC in yet~
