making a salesman feal dumb. gotta love it!!!!!!!!

So i got chosen to go it lunch today. As i pull up to a red light a NEW Mazda rx-8 pulls up next to me with a salesman driving and a customer in the seat next to him. so I thought lets have fun. so i turn up the stereo and rev the motor. the sales men does the same and sayssomthing to the custome so i take off overdrive drop it in first.( i have a 2k1 SE AE with Franenkar Intake, AUTOTRAGIC) Green Light and were off. I jumped on him like white on Rice! short race to next light maybe a little under a 1/4 mile. i beat him by about a car. when he pulled up next to me the customer had his head just saking and the salesman was so embarassed. Now I know he probaly just did not know how to drive the stick shift RX-8, but it was still great to KILL HIM ANYWAY ok back to work.

The salesman probably didn't rev till 9K on each gear when he shifted.. You gotta rev the crap outta the new rx8 to get power from that rotary engine

thats the kinda kill that I like to hear. Good Job! Those rotary engines got no torque and I'm sure the salesman didn't rev it up to 7000 RPMs to get the best launch and fastest run. But he didn't know any better

How do you know the salesman didn't say to the customer "look at this a-hole revving his engine, like we are suppose to be impress ."

And when you got to the light and saw the customer shaking his head maybe he was saying "what an complete idiot ."

Do you honestly think a salesman is going to beat up the car he is trying to sell IN FRONT of the customer?

RX-8s run mid 14's. You will get owned with a moderately competent driver.

guys, I am with bglandon23 with this one. I just had similar experience myself with a salesguy I was going to purchase a subaru forester XT from (I am not claiming its anything like the RX-8). Well he saw me in my new max and cut in front of a truck to get next to me at a red light and what you know he has a customer with him! ok we were four people in my car (going to lunch just like bglandon23)

Well I was initially going to take a ramp onto the freeway which is right past the intersection I was stopped at but when I saw him look at me and grin and then rev the turbo 4, I just had to try (Eventhough I wasnt certain about how it would end). Well the light turned green and surprisingly I didnt get too much spin and walked him good.

This was the same sales person that demonstrated the new XT to me when I was at their dealership and he continued to brag all the time that how Subaru Forester XT 0-60 was 5.3 according to C&D and how it could beat a 350Z let alone a Altima. He drove us around before he gave me the keys to test drive it and man he drove that sucker hard! (So as per someone's statement above about a sales person not driving a car hard with a customer - well this one did!) I was impressed by it but obviously not enough to buy it over the max.

He looked embarrassed needless to say.

so bglandon23, I know the feeling man!

My only regret? not having a camcorder in my car at the time!

so i turn up the stereo and rev the motor.
You turn up the stereo when you race?

Well I guess you have an auto, so you don't need to hear the engine.

Could have been the 207 HP model.

Some car salesmen try to impress the customer by driving fast as hell... This Mitsubishi salesguy floored it down Beach Blv in Huntington Beach, CA (a busy street) a few years ago with me in the car when I was shopping around. Sure it looks impressive but I was more "how do I know this guy isn't go to screw up and get my killed" and then wishing he got a speeding ticket.

The RX8 has 250hp 159 torque with a redline of 9000rpm... Fun in the twisties but not a straight-line car.

Salesman don't give a **** about hammerin a car..He was trying to make a sale....His skills just were not up to par or it was the lower model rx8..If it were the lower model you would have beaten him badly in my opinion

Yeah, I'm thinking he should have torn you a new one but if there are actually two different models with different hp numbers, it was probably the slower one. Still pretty funny though if he was in fact racing.

Obviously, this sales person was not doing his job - not prepared with the right knowledge about the vehicle he was driving, or about the other car.

Also, any new car sales rep who would race a car that was not broken in is definitely not using much common sense.

Never test drove a new sports car with a salesman that DID NOT hammer a brand new engine...or a car with decent power for that matter.

I am still searching for that creature of qwhich you speak....20 years of buying cars..I have not met him yet

Yeah, I think that they are hiring the "bottom of the barrel" people, and young kids that don't want to go to college. They don't pay them well, also. I'm in industrial sales, so I guess I hafta be better or I perish.

I bought my first Max (96) from a really nice guy, about my age, he was a rare bird. Asked me the right questions, etc. He also said that most car sales reps make about $50 per car IF AND ONLY IF they get a good "report card" from the customer. They also get a poverty-level base salary, and a few bennies. Quota was 30 cars per month.

At 100% of quota, that's about $42,000. Would you work your butt off for that? Not me.

Yeah, at the Nissan dealership they handed me the keys and said "how long do you want to drive it?" I said an hour b/c I didn't think I would like it... brought it back a couple of hours later . Same thing w/ my Jeep... just handed me keys.

BMW on the other hand drove me out in the middle of nowhere and let me take over for just a few minutes. I hated those people. They looked at me like I couldn't afford the car . Ditto w/ Ford.

To you salesmen out there... never prejudge your clients.

I can see the BMW sales person being an azole, but the Ford guy? Beggars can't be choosy.

Unfortunately, the local Ford dealer bought the local Nissan franchise, so now the slick-haired guy with the lime-green liesure suit is selling Nissans.

It would be really interesting to hear an RX-8 and an S2000 race. Both of them have to rev to the top of their tach to get the best launch. The combination sound of VTEC roar and rotary buzz would be cool

yeah, same thing when we went to buy our 2000 Max, they just gave us the keys (I think they took my dads credit card info) and let us have it.

One day last year I drove up to the local ford dealer ship to get a job as a lot attendant (friends dad was a manager). When I drove up I saw 3 salesmen right out side a door. they did their little rock-paper-scissors game and then one of them came towards me, he shouted "what fine automotobile can we get you into today" and I replied (he was a good 15 feet away) "the only fine automobile I see on this lot is the one I just stepped out of". The look his face plus the two others at the door, and then the 2 off to my left (they turned around and had a WTF look) was priceless. As I approached him I just said "I'm not looking for a car, I'm looking for a job, thanks though." End the end I decided not to take the job, I couldnt listen to salesmen feeding BS lines to customers and not be "allowed" to tell customers the real story behind stuff and whatnot.

not trying to bash or joining the bandwagon. The dealers need to educate the saleman at least with the product that they are selling. When I helped my sister purchase her 96' Maxima. The saleman told us that the Maxima (auto) can out accelerate the Chevy Corvette. In addition, he was so proud of his ability that he told us he can sell ice to the people living in Alaska. LOL He was such a moron and so ignorance!
(for the record, I did not think that all saleman are moron, alright)

Good kill...probably ruined the sale for him

To those who say that a salesman wouldn't beat on a brand new car that's just ridiculous. How are you going to sell a sports car to someone without showing them what it can do? If it were a luxury car I would agree, but not a sports car.

I also don't have salesmen drive me around...I always drive. Most of the time they are scared $hitless with the way I beat on them. However when I test drove my 92 SE-R the guy had me going 90 MPH in 4th gear and then he says "down shift!". I was like "no way" but then he pushed me into it. Well, that sold me on the car. During the ride he kept on going "faster, faster, faster!" and scared the $hit out of me

So since the salesman raced you in an XT, the RX-8 salesman MUST have been racing.

maybe it was a salesman and his friend.

I dont think he really care about trashing a brand new car like that....if the customers agree, they will do anything to impress them. plus, if I am buying a sports car like that, of course I want to see the car's high end.
