Oil coming from crankcase vent?!!!?

My filter on my crank case has oil under it.. I am guessing it comes out when I am driving

I have let the car idle for 20 minutes and nothing comes out.. any ideas?

All I know is that when that was happening in my car it was from the lack of compression or blow by pass the valves form the holes in my pistons.....it was very ugly.

I would check compression on the fron 3 cylinders and also check the condition of the plugs.......the plugs will tell you everything.

I hope it is not what my problem was!

170-175 PSI all around

What am I looking for on the plugs?

Oil?

NONE the last time I checked when I did my compression test.. 1 month ago

Yes....oil.
and I would do the compression check again to see if there is any changes. If you have a wet plug (oil) then you might have a broken ring or piston or valve. The valve would be the least possible.

I had broken pistons that were blowing oil out of mine.
and I ended up with a new engine.

From what I know you'll also get oil from the crankcase vent when pressures get very high and the oil blows by. That oil works its way back through the intake and ends up in your VI

that is what catch cans are for, the little bit of oil and moisture in the blow-by gas.

if it is a lot of oil though, latinmax is right - that is not good, usually a sign of very bad news - but we are talking a good bit of oil. atleast from my experience it was a LOT of oil - covering everythign under that 1/2 of the hood haha

That's pretty much the purpose of the crankcase vent. Oil vapors get out through it, and back into the intake path (assuming you have it hooked back up to the intake).

What's the difference between the crankcase vent and the PCV valve??

Yes what is the difference? The dealer just replaced my PCV valve claiming that it was the cause for my 1L of oil loss per 1000km problem. I personally think they are sh*tting me.

a crankcase vent/filter will be open all the time allowing oil vapor to pass through... and if I'm correct the PCV valve wil only open and allow oil vapor through into the intake tract under a certain amount of vaccum(not too sure on that, but it was worth a shot )
