Knock Sensor 97 Maxima

Hey what's up you all,
I'm trying to figure out how many knock sensors does my Maxima have? The check engine light came on and I pulled the code 0304 which says I need to replace my knock sensor. I called a local auto store and they said my Maxima has more then one knock sensor is that true?? If it is how do I figure out which ones I need?? Please help!! Thanks in advance

PEACE

Ak

no, there's one under the intake manifold. email MsMpm2000@aol.com for a cheap used knock sensor.

To my limited knowledge, getting that code (which I currently am getting) means that your knock sensor is detecting a knock. I believe mine is going off because their is a rattle in my timing chain area.

I don't think it means that your knock sensor is bad, but that it is detecting a knock. Maybe it means both?

You only have 1 knock sensor on your Maxima and you can be sure of that.
I had the 0304 code last week and change mine. No more code and the max is pulling strong again.

Knock sensor code on the ECU means there is a malfunction in the knock sensor circuit. Usally means knock sensor has gone bad. You need to replace it. here is how to replace it:

Bummer. I got my knock sensor on ebay for $80. I just finished the job, which was a piece of cake with the right tools

Just because you are getting the knock sensor code doesn't necessarily mean the KS is bad. It might just be doing it's job by detecting knock. Clear the codes per the directions in the stickie and see if it comes back.

I was getting the 3-4 code along with a 5-3 which is the front right oxygen sensor. I replaced the O2 sensor and reset the codes. After driving it for a few miles I checked and had a 3-4 code. I just replaced teh knock sensor, reset the codes and drove it about 20 miles. I checked the codes when I got home and had the 5-5, so I guess it worked. The car is a '96 Inifinti I30 with 155K miles on it.

Took me three hours (and many trips to Sears to purchase tools) to replace mine. I am kind of slow and the lack of tools does not help. I got the knock sensor (Bosch) from thepartsbin.com, $115 delivered. Much cheaper than at Nissan dealer. The Bosch sensor is indentical to the Nissan one, down to to marking on the sensor itself.

I was going to buy the Bosch sensor from one of those places that sells them for $115, but someone told me that one was for sale on ebay.
I was also given this link http://www.skippynet.com/maxima/knocksensor.htm
which gives great instructions and says what tools to use. I ordered them from craftsman.com. I didn't like the quarter inch drive extension though. If felt like it was going to snap. I used a 10 inch and a 6 inch 3/8 drive and a 3/8 to 1/4 adaptor. I was done in about half an hour.

To the original poster once again, clear the CEL and see if it comes back before going out and buying a new one. If it doesn't come back, your KS was just doing it's job. And even if it does come back, it might be your engine knocking and something bigger might need to be fixed. You might wanna check the resistance that the sensor has. Do you feel like the power is being drastically diminished??
