Just got my maxima, had a few questions?

hi i just got my 1997 maxima and i was wondering how i know if it is a GLE or GXE or what?

Also i was wondering about APC super white headlights. I heard they were not very safe, that they could melt stuff or burn up connectors. Does anyone know the answer and could you offer substitutes?

i would definitely appreciate any feedback. thank you.

another question i had.
i was looking at it, and it turns out the previous owner had installed some mods.
there is a Stillen intake, an Apex Turbo 115mm muffler, and an Unorthodox Racing Ultra Street underdrive Crank pulley on the vehicle. Oh yeah, there is also a Faze 5" indiglo Tach.

I was wondering if anyone could calculate the horsepower gain from those mods? im not really sure what each one gives you.

thank you.

On top of this forum is:

And here is your answer from the above thread:
----------------------------------------------------------
How do I know which trim level I am looking at?

The 4th gen Maxima was offered in three trim levels for the US market:
GXE "The essential Maxima"
SE "The Sportiest Maxima"
GLE "The luxurious Maxima"

All trim levels have the same engine, so performance differences between them are pretty much nil. The best way to tell which trim level you have is to decode the VIN Plate. This is due to much part swapping and trim upgrading, even transmission swaps that can be done.

TO DECODE THE VIN PLATE:
Raise your hood. Look for a shiny metal identification tag fastened to the passenger side of firewall. The top row is the Vehicle Identification Number, starting with J. The second row is model information. The first five characters are BLHUL. The sixth character is the trim level designator, defined as follows:
E = GXE
G = GLE
V = SE

Congrats on the new Max

Please read The 4th Gen FAQ, it will answer most of your questions.

Also, get rid of the aftermarket tach. You already have one from the factory.

FYI, that muffler and pulley probably unleashed about 6 more ponies, so hang on tight

I would say not to use those apc bulbs if they are the higher wattage ones, they melted my harness on my last maxima.

If you have those Mods, there is a possibility you may have a Y pipe.

Sounds like you got a very nice head start with the new max. Listen to pjalst and check for a y-pipe, as well, because that'll boost up the hp nicely. I've heard of a 15hp gain with an intake and y-pipe alone, but that could also have been slightly exaggerated.

Nope. Dyno-proven many, many times.

they actually did melt your harness? what would you recommend for replacements? i like the higher wattage very much, and the blue tint.
also, did it ruin anything else? what happened when they burned up?
did it catch fire or anything? i assume you had to replace the harness.
