Why --> Manual shifter hard to move!!

Hey guys...

lately i've been having alot of trouble moving the shifter around.
I mean i can get it into whicever gear i want, but it's really hard to move it...

When i put it in neutral, its sometimes hard to move it left and right... whereas if i nudge the shifter a bit foreward, i can move the shifter left right easily...

It's as if something is not lubricated somewhere... I have enough tranny fluid too... uhm.... the shifter ball is ok... I could always try adding some oil to it or something?

Any ideas?

Thanks guys

Are you having any clutch chatter? Mine was doing that too...it got real bad. I had a considerable amount of clutch chatter too. Eventually, my tranny started leaking at the bell housing.

It turned out that my mainshaft bearings were destroyed (chatter), and one of them actually fell down where the shift linkage is. That was causing the binding.

hmm naw the tranny is pretty silent when driving.

I get the usual light chatter in first gear... every other gear is silent... except for fifth... I usually hear a bit of chatter in that gear. But that's been that way since the beginning.

check your shift linkage... make sure your bolts are tight, especially on teh support rod on the tranny.

shift linkage... just to be sure... that's the part that the bottom of the shifter connects to right? the shifter goes through the frame, under the car and connects to a long bar that goes to the tranny. I'm looking at the connection between the long bar and the shifter correct?

Morning bump hehe

Thanks

Didn't you mention some time back that when you changed your tranny fluid, a spring or ball popped from your tranny? Maybe it's worth looking into that??? Good luck Frank!

Dang man you gots good memory... hehe

yeah the ball had popped out, but i was able to find it and put it all back in. Hmm... such a weird problem :-/

I know my tranny has enough oil also... I just added some like a month or 2 ago... I guess i could always check again to be sure.

something within the actual tranny may be floating around and getting stuck in between the gears as well. thats what happened to my speed sensor--ended up doing the same thing, would let me into certain gears but it would switch back and forth depending on the day. good luck man.

see this thread:

adjusting the push rod helped me out quite a bit, although still not perfect.
