vehicle speed sensor and TCU signal to ECU, need to fix?

I got those two error codes when I checked. Problem with Vehicle Speed Sensor and Automatic Transmission Control Unit signal to ECU..

I don't exactly feel anything weird when I drive. The transmission does **** a bit roughly cold but it's been like that for a long while before the CEL came on.

I wasjust wondering... are these problems usually serious or is it nothing too serious to worry about? If it's not that serious I'd probably wait to get it checked and fixed cause I'm a lil tight on money now. Is it expensive to fix?

THanks

Clear the codes and see if your speed sensor code comes back. If it does, just replace the speed sensor. The other code, hopefully will go away once thats fixed.

So the speed sensor is probably causing the error code of the transmission control unit signal to ECU as well?

How much is a speed sensor? Is it possible that the actual speed sensor is not faulty (maybe connection or wire), but gives off this CEL?

I'm just tryign to get more info on this cause I don't want a mechanic to rip me off and say this and that are all broken and need replacement..

Thanks man!

I'm experiencing a similar problem with my 96 GXE. Got Speed Sensor code first around May this year, had a Nissan dealer replace one. It cost me more than 800 bucks but the ECU still indicates Speed Sensor.

I am no mechanic here, but I learned that replacing the sensor doesn't always solve the problem. I want to drive without CEL turned on all the time, but I still don't have any apparent problem with the engine or cruise control, it's puzzling. I really hope that's not the case with you.

So did you try to have them check it out again? Did the error code for the speed sensor come along with an error code with the transmission control unit signal? I'm wondering if the two are related.

I hope that's not my problem either. I'd be ****ed if they replaced the whole thing and the problem came back. I read somewhere that it could just be the wire connection? That' swhy I'm kinda hesitant on bringing it in right away before learning more about this, because I feel like even if it's a small problem the dealer will tell me I have to replace the whole sensor to make money off of me.

I mean, the bulbs behind my acc buttons burnt out and the dealer actually had the face to tell me that I had to replace the WHOLE unit for 600 including labor. I just took it apart myself yesterday in under an hour. Bulbs are 5 bucks each. See what I mean?

I'll try this... what happens after I do the whole procedure though? Does it fix the problem?

Yes, at first it was only the VSS code. Then it came back with a combination, but never transmission control unit. But I think I am also having O/D light blinking, so I will check my AT too as maxS showed you.

600 for changing bulbs? Ummmmmm I see what you mean. That is also why I came here. There are limits but I felt that I should learn a little more

Goodluck with it. I will try it these next few days too, except I'm not too sure what this diagnosis is for? To see if transmission is okay?
Now that you mentioned, I realized my OD light was blinking when i started the car a few weeks back. But, after I shut it off and started it again the blinking went away.

what does the blinking mean again?

that test... basically the A/T controller performs its own test and gives a "self-diagnosis code". There are 2 pages i can scan also
