I'm Experiencing A Humming Sound
I'm Experiencing A Humming Sound
I have a 1998 Maxima GXE, and I have a humming sound that I hear while I’m driving. It actually sounds like the noise an empty bottle makes when you blow in it. It immediately stops when I step on the brakes, but once I let go of the brake it continues. I thought that it was the brake rotors, because they needed to be replaced. So I, myself replaced all four rotors and pads and I’m still and experiencing the same sound. Has any one ever heard of something like this? Or has this happened to someone out there? If so what is the cause and how can I correct this? You can e-mail me at: adtravesty@yahoo.com or just post it. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Alex

It might be your rear brakes not releasing completely. When I installed my rear sway bar, I noticed a humming noise. My humming noise only happened after a complete stop. I was told that the slight bend on the parking brake cables (at the sway bar mounting brackets), kept the rear brakes from fully releasing. This caused a humming noise.

Happends to me.. I heard it was my tires... Im going to put my rims on tomorrow so i'll let you know if it was the tires.

Thanks for the update, but it is a different sound. I know the noise the tires make when they need to be replaced, and the noise that it's making now is not from the tires.

Thanks for the update, that sounds more like what I'm experiencing. While I was driving today, I pulled up my Emerency brake and the humming stoped and as soon I let go the humming started again. How did you correct this problem?
Any help is appreciated.

I am experiencing the same exact problem, just started yesterday as a matter of fact, but mine only happens when the wheel is straight, but when I turn the wheel right it gets louder but when I turn left it dosnt happen. Supposedly it may be my wheel bearings so the car will be in the shop tomorrow, ill let ya know what I find out.
