Tech details for DIY CAI / Intake Designers + cheaper couplings

Hello all!

Here's a collection of technical details and measurements I've come up with while designing an intake system for my VG (VE is probably the same, but can't confirm).

Hope this helps some of you, and saves you the sweat to get the same details.

For CAI 3" Pipe Couplings (cheaper than silicone)

Warpspeed Performance uses:
Gates #24040 Vulco 3" ID (76mm) Truck radiator hose
Note: Tight fit on MAF (must heat),very difficult fit on Throttle body Inlet. Recommend 3-1/8" ID Marine exhaust hose.

Also 3-1/8"ID Marine Exhaust Hose
(Nitrile 220 Degr F contiuous rating)
around $10.95 per foot

WSP Midpipe (part of their CAI kit)
Manfold end is 3.115" (3-3/16) OD
MAF End is 2.94" - 3.025" OD

Throttle body inlet manifold (couples to midpipe):
Retention Lip at 3.273" OD
OD past lip is 3.125"OD

Mass Air Flow adapter:
INLET: 3.130" OD

MAF Bolt Centers on Outlet (6mm bolts)
horiz cc = 3.630" (useful for brackets)

MAF Length
Minus coupling insertion: 3.790" (retenetion lip to flange face)

Mounting Holes for bottom of Stock Airbox
use for support brackets:
in subframe; 6mm bolts
Bolt Hole c-c = 3-1/16"

Wow thanks.

I've built a few intakes for my car, the current one just bieng a cone filter on the MAF sensor. Check out http://launch2k.com/cais/. I also had a sheet metal airbox idea that kinda replaced the stock airbox, but was super loud. Didn't have any performance differences. I just built it so I didn't have to buy another air filter (had a K&N panel filter in there). I'll post pics of that if you want.

Btw, nice tires (I have the same ones).

you have the bolt dimensions center to center? I am making a maf adapter and I want more precise measurements than measure-from-about-center-to-about-center with a ruler.
