Painted Calipers and installed brake stuff w/pic!
Painted my calipers this weekend. Didn’t want to go too flashy like blue or red, but wanted to add a little touch so I painted them black with Silver Nissan Lettering on them. Turned out pretty decent actually. Most of the pics I took of the process turned out like crap so I’m just posting one below for now.
I also Installed:
Brembo slotted and dimpled rotors
Metal Master Pads
Stainless Lines
Synthetic Brake Fluid
I did get the pressure brake bleeder to work with the 4th Gen yellow cap. Couldn’t seem to get it to hold pressure on it’s own, but I added a few clamps to add some holding pressure and it worked fine. It was very handy for bleeding the brakes. Definitely worth the hassle to make one.
The Brake feel is nice. They seem more responsive, but they are barely broken in yet so I have yet to see how they are under more heavy use.

Here's The process I used:
Painted entire calipers Black using 2-3 coats of 500 degree engine paint. Then I got special stickers made from a local auto trim detail shop. The material is meant to be used as a mask and is low tack (low stickiness). They cut out the "stencil" using a vinyl cutter. It's applied just like the maxima.org stickers except it's the negative image. I then Mask off everything else and paint the lettering with "Aluminum" (silver color) engine paint. I used 2 coats. I left the black dry for an hour, which was not quite long enough. I did pull off some black removing the masks. Nothing I couldn't touch up though. I then use a clear coat engine paint and put on about 3 coats. It adds depth and really makes them shine. This is actually the second time I did something like this. Pretty easy, but time consuming. It took me all weekend. Friday night to jack the car up and remove the wheels and calipers. Saturday to prep and paint, plus for me, install the new lines (worked till about 4 in the afternoon) Then Sunday about 4 hours of re-installation and break-in. It could almost be done in one day, but I don't like to handle the calipers for a while after painting. They scratch and chip easily before the paint is cured.
Thanks to Jeff92se on this thread for helping me with the pressure bleeder.
And Bluesbrekr for helping me prep the calipers for painting.

Looks really good Eric. I haven't seen any calipers with the "NISSAN" on them before. Good work.
Every time I see painted calipers it makes me want to do it. Then I remember that I have to save my $ cuz I'm moving out in a week.

wow that looks good. did you completely remove the calipers from the car? if so, did you just let the brake lines hang or what?

"Well, at first some comes out, but does not shoot out. it kind of dribbles out like a leaky faucet when you disconnect the lines. I left the lines hooked up and zip tied them to the spring so they don’t drip. That has worked for the last day and a half for me."
I completely removed mine, but it's not necessary. You could leave the line hooked up and just remove the caliper from the spindle.
No problem! You should take pics of the pressure bleeder and the cap. I'd like to see it.
Bleeding is so easy. Just pump it up, loosen the bleeder screw and sit down on your **** for a few minutes.

Jeff92se,
I did take some pics, some didn’t turn out too well though. When I’m not so busy I will put up more info and pics on my homepage.
It is super easy. Now that it’s so easy I may actually change my brake fluid every couple years or so.
Maximaseefu,
It isn’t the cleanest edge. Not a perfect line because the casting is uneven so you get some not so perfect lines, but it is a brake caliper so it’s not like you get down on your hands a knees and check them out too often. Most people just look down, and they look fine from that distance.
