Why --> Hesitation between 3k-4k rpm

Hey guys

I finally replaced my knock sensor and i have a gazzilion amount of hp power back

But I noticed that when i floor 3rd gear, i feel like i have alot of pull from 2-3k... between 3-4k it pulls, but it's not as pronounced as from 2-3k and from 4k up... i only really feel it in 3rd gear. I barely barely feel it in 2nd 4th and 5th gear...

Any ideas what could be going on?

I recently changed my KS... I've added a HAI about 3 months ago.
I have a ypipe, bpipe, though a standard cat and muffler...

Just curious if anyone might have had this problem already...
I tried searching but it keeps giving me no results found ???

Thanks guys

Well you can try the Dave B test and put your old accordian mid-pipe with huge resonator back in.

This hesitation in acceleration has been experiencd by many members here. There was a big thread about it a couple months ago, have you tried searching on the test site?? This dip in power even shows up on dynos. Nobody has been able to give a definite answer.

oh really? dang...

yeah i had done a search for "3000 rpm hesitation" and such... but no luck

If you have the thread handy i wouldn't mind reading it....

my rear o2 sensor is bad along with rear EVAP thingy... but that shouldn't effect performance or mileage, from what i've read here.

hmm weird stuff!

i think the dyno dip has to do with our intake manifold, i don't recall seeing a dip on a MEVI max dyno

Let me put it this way - this hesitation has been experienced by LOTS LOTS LOTS of members here! It happened to me, as well. Try searching for words like "micro", "second", "pauses", "acceleration" etc...you get the point. Yes, and although nobody has been able to give a definite answer to what it is each and every time here is a list of what it turned out to be in MOST cases (from most often to least often):

1) Electrical
a) Ignition coils
b) some as simple as worn spark plugs
c) others...

2) Loss of pressure in a particular cylinder at certain times and in particular gear because of say a cracked ring etc.

3) Clogged fuel filter

4) Clogged or dirty throttle body

5) Some (only some though) have complained that a bad knock sensor was to blame in the hesitations they experienced

From what I have noticed, many members' problems with these hesitations had to do with the above because I read these kind of threads often. Having said that, I figure that approx. 90% of members were successfull after experiencing what u are and going by the above-listed criteria.

The 3K-4K hesitation is very common and NO, it's not a "blown ring" The hesitation seems to appear more when the weather gets hot.

1) Reinstall the resonator that goes between the TB and MAF and see if the problem goes away. You might also notice an increase in power.

2) Your 02 sensors may be getting old and can't react quick enough under certain loads. How many miles are on your 02 sensors?

I put my resonator back on and some of the hesitation disappeared and power felt a lot better. Hesitstion completely disappeared when I installed a new front 02 sensor (97K miles on it, 7 years old).

Hey

Uhm my front o2 sensor has been replaced... aside from that, the other 2 are probably pretty old... My car has 105k miles on it.

Hmm I can try to reinstall the resonator... Do you literally mean, just take it out, and put it back in?

I should probably clean my TB while i'm at it... hmm... should make for a good weekend... hehe

I think My KS was bad for a while, bercause i never felt the hesitation... now i install the new KS, and BAM! I feel everything from the engine!

If your front 02 sensor has been replace, you might want to try and replace the other front 02 sensor (order from Drivewire.com, $65 OEM sensor). I rarely hear any problem with the cat O2 sensors and it's job isn't remotely as critical as the front two sensors. I don't even think the car sensor is used other than to test that the cat is working.

If you are already running resonator between the TB and MAF then don't bother. I was just saying to remove your midpipe and reinstall the resonator.

Clean your TB, it might make some difference, but I don't see how this would affect hesitiation from 3-4K rpms.

my car was doing this for months and finally it threw a code last week. It was a misfire in cylinder 3. Just as expected, the plug was fine, but I am changing the coil pack this coming week and I know that will fix it.

hmm interesting...

It is possible to test the resistance on a coil pack no? I think... i think i rememebr reading something about testing it's resitance...

If so, what's the usual reading? I might check mine for the hell of it... Let's me learn more about my car.
