That is the setup. A diode in your meter cluster ties the brake and battery/charge lamp come on together whenever the charge lamp is trigerred.

so does this mean its definitely the altenator?
It means that the alternator is triggering the lamp, so most likely yes.
Take it to Autozone, etc for a quick & free test. I'd do it soon. You could only last a few hours off the battery, not very long if you run your A/C, system, headlights, etc.

Its the alternator, mine flickered on and of for both lights. Then it stayed on steady. Then the car died 4 hours later. SUCKS to be stuck in RI when im from brooklyn. Got my shop to replace it with a HIGH OUTPUT for $180.

It's your alternator. Find someone with a Passport 8500 radar detector and have them put it on the voltage meter function. Most likely it will read far below the normal 13-13.5V. I knew my alternator was bad because my Passport was reading under 11 volts.

think of an altenator as your cell phone charger.. if leave your charger at your mother-in-law's house .. you have x amount of time before you can't use the phone anymore. When the cell phone battery does die, its not the battery is bad, it just needs to be charged. So yes the altenator is the only thing thats bad.. because its not charging the battery.
