FrankenCAR or Weapon R Dragon intake ?

Which intake is better to add to stock exhaust. This will be my first performance mod.
Will there be any problems with a y-Pipe and cat back later?
I am planning on using the Apexi dry filter so I won't have to wurry about MAF problems later.
Here are the 2 links:

Thanks, for any help and suggestions, Ecko

Re: FrankenCAR or Weapon R Dragon intake ?

Alright, I can only say that the Weapon R Intake screams. When you hit the higher RPM's it sounds like you already have a new exhaust on the car. I notied stong gains when I put mine on and it sounds awsome. It Growls deep and hard when pushing the Max. Thats just my opinion. Maybe you can wait till tomorrow when I get a sound recorder and post a clip or link to a sound clip of how it sounds on my Maxima!! Also there are pictures of it on my page. Heres one of the photos for you to look at.

I'm now considering the Dragon and Frankencar intakes although I was looking at the RSWERKS site which sells the Dragon and they have this intake called a Hyper Intake. So now I've added a 3rd intake to my list.
It looks like a Dragon pipe with a different type of filter. It sort of looks like an Apexi filter.
So now I'm thoroughly confused. I'd like facts on what each of these intakes provide:
Weapon R Dragon Intake System
RSWERKS Hyper Intake
Frankencar Intake

Is one more reliable than the other?
Does one filter last longer between cleanings?
Are the Dragon and Hyper filters MAF safe?

I would go with the Frankencar w/ apexi filter. The Weapon-r has a cheesier filter. But they are both essentialy the same.

Actually the foam filter lets in 80% more air which actually makes it scream. I have a Weapon R Dragon Intake and Love it, I never thought it would make the car scream like it does.

Don't you have to worry about filter oil sucking back into the MAF sensor?

Can you get the Weapon R w/ an Apexi.

Whats up w/ FrankenCAR ? I posted for the group deal and it seems like he's nowhere to be found.

You can actually put any filter you want on the weapon R intake or any other intake for that matter. They are all the same size I believe with 3" diameter. The one good thing about the Weapon R Intake they have some options for it which is really nice. they have the Ram Air kit that fits over the filter so you can hook up a 3" diameter hose and run it to the lower valence of the max where you attach the ram portion. Now that gives you a little more extra air which means power!!!!! Check out there sight, dragon intake and the ram air!!!!

me? hijack a thread? monopolize a conversation? never! :attention

Ecko - You are asking some of the same questions I am seeking answers to.

There seem to be some really killer products available but I'm not sure what is going to be best for me.
Any info helps - thanks guys.

hct67 - do you have the original filter or the V2?

kloogy - thanks for the comment - I like the frankencar but the group deal is kind of up in the air right now - and I don't understand why the frankencar is so expensive (and yes, I do know the apexi is part of that expense).

I have the original filter but am in the process of ordering the V2 filter and the ram air kit so I can run it down to the valence or even where the old Nissan intake was by the hood and grille. Tell me thats not hot, its a btter option then being stuck with a Injen or Place Racing one where its so low in the engine compartment and wheel well where if you do go through some water your screwed. I can actually mount the ram beind the Grill and in front of the radiator so it will get an awsome fow of cold air!!

dragon w/ram air kit

That combo sounds very cool. Post your results so those of us who don't like being on the bleeding edge can learn from you.

I saw the ram air kit on the RSWERKS site and it looks like another simple upgrade.

The main reason I am considering the WeaponR Dragon or Frankencar are because the Injen and other homemade CAIs would cause me damage. There are several low water crossings near where I live plus the entire environment I drive in is dirty.

thanks for the info.

Just to let you know Frankencar has a huge back log on orders, I just read about one of the group deals that took forever to get completed. I rodered my weapon R Intake from Custom Maxima. They are on the East Coast and me being in New Jersey took only 1 day to get from there shop to my door. That was cool. As far as the ram, tomorrow I am meeting Mike ECKO51 as he lives in NEw Jersey to let him hear how the Weapon R sounds on my Max. Hopefully he will like it and spread the word. Anyone else in here from New Jersey?

80% more air than a K&N or Apexi filter? You will have to back that one up with info. I'd bet that it doesn't stop much dirt.

I was thinking the same thing...but they don't have any numbers on their site that I've been able to find to back up that claim. This is all I see:

THE FILTER :
To increase intake charge, we developed the Dragon Filter, which features an internal tuned flow velocity stack design and Air Turbulance guides to maximize gains. Weapon*R uses the highest quaility High Flow 4PLy Poly Urethane Foam to ensure a protected high performance engine. Many studies have shown Higher flow & Better Dirt Filtration with Foam Filter and the conventional cotton filter. Flow rates of up to 80% more Air, which increases your engines performance.

Well I got a chance to check out hct67's WeaponR intake in person and this thing sounds great. It seems like it adds a nice punch too. kicks in around 3700 rpms. This was on sock exhaust too so I no it's all intake not cat-back sound as well.

Thanks again, Hct67.
