Please Write Nissan Consumer Affiars Re: Rotors!!!

Okay guys, I've been dealing w/ Nissan on my rotors for over a month now, and they are pretty adament that they are not going to cover this under warranty, EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A TSB FOR THE 2000 MAX. They said that they are not aware that there is a problem with the 2002-up Maxima. They aren't going to get this through their thick heads until we make it an issue. I STRONGLY encourage you to write a letter to Nissan Consumer Affairs and advise them that this IS an issue and something needs to be done about it. Otherwise, we're all going to take it up the rear on this. If you want the address, here it is:

Nissan Consumer Affairs
P.O. Box 191
Gardena, CA 90248

OR CALL 1-800-Nissan-1

Please follow suit and make this an issue!

I got lucky. The rotors on my 2003 SE were replaced under warranty at just over 300 miles on the odomoter. The best part was when they tried telling me that they became warped from washing my car. In any event, I have heard of numerous problems with the rotors on the 02-03's. Have you tried taking it to multiple dealers?

No, I haven't. All the dealers in Atlanta are dumbasses. The rep at Consumer Affairs said she called them all and they all told her the same thing.

Well, I'll try and help in any way I can. I live in Pittsburgh and didn't have a problem with McMinn Nissan, but then again I had only just taken delivery of the car a week before it happened so there really wasn't much they could say I guess. Good luck

How do you become aware that the rotors are warped? I just painted my calipers so if my rotors are warper and I bring them into Nissan, they will probably blame me or say its my fault!!!

Dealer tried pulling crap with me at 20K on my 2K2...said Nissan wouldn't cover it...just 12k. I said BS. After much waiting and pressuring, he called Nissan, and they "agreed to cover it"...meaning I got my rotors resurfaced for free. Next set will be Powerslots...these stock brakes/pads are average, and no better.

On the TSB's for the 2k, it will only cover it under warrenty up to 12K miles. What is it for 2k2+? Mine happened around 30K miles and I had and independent small shop do the resurfacing ($10 each rotor+$35 for both front pads). They are reoccuring again at 80K miles and I think I'll end up buying and aftermarket brake kit or upgrade to 300ZX rotors.

Here is some info on brake warping.

Q: Why do disc brake rotors warp?
A: Baer Brake Systems tells us disc brake rotors warp because they’re not properly seasoned to begin with. Simply put, once a disc brake rotor warps, the battle is lost, even with a trip to the brake lathe. Baer strongly suggests properly seasoning brake rotors when they’re new, which prevents warpage.

I completely understand why dealers/manufacturers have a problem warranting rotors. There are so many variables involved as to the cause, and most of them are not their fault. Does this mean I wouldn't try several different dealers if needed to get them replaced if under 36k, Hell no. You may not be able to get it done though and again I understand where they are coming from. This isn't just a "Nissan" problem. Every auto make has its rotor problems. Are some from cheap rotors? Yes, Prove it.
You won't know if another dealer won't replace them under warranty if you don't try. Either way the longer you drive on them the worse it's going to get.

You've already had your rotors cut once by a dealer, I still can't believe they charged you a little over $100 to do that and didn't even replace the pads, VERY F'd UP if you ask me. Cutting them again isn't the best of ideas as I've told you.

You've change your driving, or should I say braking style, and with new rotors & pads you shouldn't have and more problems. I know cash is tight and it'll make till the next payday if you can't get a dealer to do it. You order the rotors and I have a set of metal pads in my garage I'll let you have cheap. It won't take more than an hour to do the job.

You guys have it all wrong. Complaining to Nissan HQ will get you no where on piddly issues like brake rotors.

I bought my 2k2 used, the rotors warped 2x (when I was still under warranty) and both times my dealer resurfaced them no questions asked. I didn't even buy the car there! You need to find a better dealer and/or change the pads.

There's been extensive discussion about this, and many people have noticed the problem cleared up when they got different pads and had the stock rotors resurfaced. Either way, most places will resurface your rotors for like $10, don't ever let nissan do repair work that isn't covered by warranty. You'll end up squealing like a pig.
