Here's the problem, the passenger rear is leaking brake fluid everytime i press down on the brake, and also when in park the rotor is not holding very tight- i can spin it easily w/ my hand. I bled the brakes 3 times and its still very "spongy" and not good to stop. Can anyone please give me some help on what I can do to fix it?! Classes start monday and I need the car to be driveable. Thanks.

The Story:
Today I finally decided to get around to doing my brakes- first time doing brakes on my car, but I've done a few others- but I figured the rears would be enough for one day and the fronts could be saved (that turned out to be more true than i imagined). I go out and buy new rotors and pads take them home and get to work on it at noon. The drivers side went good, a little difficult to get the caliper back on... then the passenger side from hell! It took me 5 hours on this one and its still messed up. I ended up breaking the caliper so I had to go and get a new one, and then gave them a part i needed when I gave them the old one for core charge so I had to go back, then got home and realized i needed brake fluid so I went back again, then ran out of brake fluid and said screw it for the night. And the new caliper is gold and looks ghetto since the rest are red...oh well

I'm not sure if other cars are the same this way, but there is a screw that hold the brake line into the caliper, and it has a hole at the top for the fluid to enter through, I think its that the hole isnt lined up properly, but I dont have any real way of telling so.

 

So it's leaking at the connection or the bleed valve? I'm still not clear whats leaking.

You must bleed your brakes once you open up the system. Especially after putting on a new caliper.

 

it's leaking from the connection, not the bleed valve. I bled the one that was leaking, but I'm thinking I should do the whole brake system? I didnt have time to tonight, it got dark out and I couldnt see anymore.

 

well if there is fluid leaking from somewhere...find that somewhere and fix the leak. then move on to the other steps....

Looks like the leak is at the Banjo bolt. It has two copper washers. You may need new washers to stop the leak. Also, don't forget to torque the Banjo bolt, not too much though or it may break. I used 20 ft-lbs and that works for me. Fix that first and it may also fix the emergency brake problem, too.

 

well the new caliper came w/ new washers for the banjo bolt, however i think i may have over tightened it, and stripped the threads. I'm gonna go see if I Can get a new one and 2 more washers- hopefully that will stop the leak. But now to get the brake to hold better.

 

Well, a fluid leak will definitely cause the brake to be weak. Fix the leak, and your other problems may dissolve.
