4th Gen Shift Points

I know people have asked this but I have been looking and cant find the post and since the search function is disabled here we go...

What is optimal shift point for 99 5spd. I think I rem the HP dropping off at 5500 or something. Thanks

Also wat is optimal psi for front and back 16 inch Michalin Z rated all seasons?

Dave,
Are you basing those points on your care which has the MEVI and ECU? Cause on a stock maxima isnt the top of the power curve at 5500 or something? I could have sworn I saw a dyno slip showing this.

You have to test it out and see for yourself. I personally think the best way would be to get a dyno of each gear and figure it out that way. What works the best for me is, well of course this was before I had a MEVI:
1st-2nd - 6000
2nd-3rd - 5800
3rd-4th - 5700

IC,
I realize that most everyone says to shift at similar points. What I dont understand is the dyno graph for 4th gen shows a drop off @ 5500. I doubt every stock maxima would greatly differ from this. So why then take it to near redline?

You don't really want to. People say take it to 6500 in first gear because when they shift they want their rpms to land where they have higher TQ and HP. Similar with second and 3rd gear. You want to take your car as high as it can go without screwing up your 1/4 mile time. You want to stay in range where you have the most power without losing time. So taking it a little about your max power is good but going too much over without a MEVI in my experience works against you.

The shift points that worked best for me are like Dave said. I'm afraid Hacim's suggested shift points would leave you far to low in the RPMs to make a very good 1/4 mile pass but maybe thats what worked for him. I'd suggest trying 6500 6200 6000 first and see what happens.

Also, the engine will be wheezing at the top-end as you approach the finish line. Some have gotten better results by holding 3rd. Others have gotten better results via a quick shift to 4th. You'll have to experiment and see what works better for you since every car/track/driver is a little different.
