i bet this has already been asked before, but with the MEVI, when it changes over, does it sound like a honda hitting v-tech?. what i mean is, is there a change in the sound of the intake, or does it stay the same?

If your using a mid-pipe in your intake you can hear the changeover. I went back to the stock resonator box and I can't hear it change over anymore. I kinda miss it !!!

I can't hear mine switch over, never have been able to. I can tell whether its switched over or not by the sound it makes above about 6000rpm, but I don't notice a tone change when it switches.

Get next to a center mediun on a highway with the windows open, and you will hear it

the intake sounds are closer together..

so there is a noticable, at least for some, change in sound? i have a frankencar intake, so would i be able to hear it with that? the only reason i'm asking is because a good friend of mine has an SI and i love the sound it makes when it changes over. any more input would be great.

hearing it would be impossible at full throttle, but you can feel it.

It doesn't sound like VTEC kicking in, but you can hear the tone change. Usually only if you're really listening for it.

nope.. you won't hear ****.. i have turned my radio off.. i have tried it with the windows open.. windows closed.. blown y pipe.. fixed y pipe.. nope .. no sound.. i think people are confusing the slight hesitation and pull with sound. You don't hear anything.. you just feel it slightly kinda like a jerk..

ok, i was hoping it would, but if it doesn't then it doesn't. Also, i know i've got to stop the honduh related questions, but instead of the Harlan RPM switch, could you use a v-tech controller since they're both selenoid based controllers? the only reason i'm asking is because he has the V-AFC, and can get me one for dirt cheap. thanx for all the help guys!

Hmmmmm....I could hear mine plain as day as long as you have a MIDPIPE and a 5000-5100rpm switchover. To my ears, it's sounds like the VTEC cam engaging on a stock CL/TL-S. If you have an auto, the changeover won't be as apparant. When I dynoed (hacked airbox, midpipe), the switchover was loud and everyone's eyes in the shop were when the tach swung past 5000rpms. I did notice that the higher the rpm switchover, the less you can hear the noise. At a 5400rpms switchover, I could barely hear it which probably means it's working better hence the lack of resonance (noise).

I put on my resonator between the TB and MAF and now I can barely hear anything which kind of sucks because I liked the sound and it also told me it was working.

wow, thats really different from from what others have said. so dave or anybody else with the MEVI, would it be possible to use a V-AFC to control the changeover point?

Won't work. The system uses an RPM signal to tell the MAP sensor to open and apply vacuum to the actuator rod which in turn opens/closes the butterflies. The V-AFC would be useless....I think.

but the v-afc changes the rpm point for the v-tech change over, so it would have the same rpm signal that the harlan gets right? v-tech is controlled by a selenoid right? i thought that the MEVI was controlled via a selenoid as well...i guess i thought wrong. thanks for the help Dave!
