Dyno'd today. About right!
Dyno'd today. About right!
Well, I dyno'd the max today. It's a 1997 GXE 5-speed with 93,000 miles. I've got an intake, y-pipe, and test pipe. I did three runs and the results are as follows.
Run 1: HP = 178.6 (peak @ 5200 RPM)
TQ = 183.9 (peak @ 4700 RPM)
Run 2: HP = 175.6 (peak @ 5200 RPM)
TQ = 183.0 (peak @ 4700 RPM)
Run 3: HP = 175.7 (peak @ 5200 RPM)
TQ = 180.4 (peak @ 4700 RPM)
These number are about what I expected, but I was hoping to see closer to 190 at the wheels. Oh well. I'm still pleased. The curves are extremely smooth from 2000 to 3500 RPM, but then a slight fluctuation kicks in. THe dyno operator said I might need new plugs. Can anyone tell me if that sounds right?

Most cars with a variable intake manifold that I've seen dynos for (IS300, BMW 3-series, Acura CL-S, Camry V-6, etc) all have similar dips due to manifold profile switchover points. Depends on the design, though.
