Can rear windows go all the way down?

Anybody know if there is a way to make the rear windows go all the way down. That half way down stuff both sucks and blows.

So is the law saying that you can't change it, or that no new cars can have rear windows that go all the way down? thanks.

Law? Please!!! In this case it is REALLY simple.

Look at the freaking door shape and tell me how the bottom of the glass is going to fit into the shape caused by the wheel arch 'cutout'.

I believe (as someone once told me at a dealership) it's a safety issue for children who sit in the back. Detracts them from sticking their hands or head out the window.

"It's not really a safety issue as the federal laws no longer mandate that the rear windows can't go all the way down (however they used to back around 1995). "

That's SUCH a freakin myth that dealers LOVE to pull on suckers (no offense. ) When I was in PD school for my insurance training, they had a cutaway of a door which showed how the window motor operates and they mentioned that off hand. The reason the window won't go down all the way has absolutely nothing to do with safety and everything to do with your rear wheels. The bottom of the door has to curve in to make room for the wheels, so there is no room to make the window go all the way down.

I have an Infiniti G35 and a 2000 Maxima. Neat thing about the
G35 Sedan is that the rear windows go ALL the way down.
Looking at the design of the rear door shows that the door
design allows space for the glass to all the way down.
The Maxima design indicates there isn't room for the glass.
Just an observation... It is not against the law BTW

thanks for clearing it up... this makes a lot more sense now.

Hmmm... are the doors the exact same shape/size? If so, I wonder if the Max door could be modified to make additional space for the window? Or perhaps one could purchase a replace door for the G35 and put it on their Max?

But then again, I'm NEVER in my backseat so I really don't care if the windows go all the way down.

Well... that is to say I'm never in the backseat when the car's in gear.

The doors are shaped differently. Imagine if your rear windows
of the Max were all the way down. Is there room, or is the cut
away for the rear wheel in the way? There aint room there!

Mercedes Benz c-class rear doors are an exact fit on the maxima--just make sure to order the doors from the same year c-class as your maxima (they're not cheap, plan to spend upwards of $200/door primed, $300/door pre-painted in Nissan color codes). There is an electrical adapter to convert rom DIN (Mercedes) to EIA (Nissan) that lets you just plug in the wiring with no cutting or soldering required. Most Mercedes dealers in larger cities carry this adapter since they sell lots of these door conversion kits. An added bonus is that the adapter gives you auto-up on the rear windows of the maxima. I had my doors swapped out when I had my glass tinted, rear windows go all the way down now--just like a Mercedes!

That was some funny stuff Jay Beede....
When the 5th gen first came out, Nissan explained that the rear windows are longer than normal (can't remeber the exact reason in the ads). If you notice on most cars, the little glass that comes right after the window and that doesn't roll down is long enough to cover the wheel arch allowing the windows to come all the way down. Thus, giving you a small window. But on the 5th Gen, they're extremely tiny; giving you a much bigger window that rolls down.
