Mazda 6 vs My Max

Hey guys, you have to hear this.

I was on my way back form golfing with 3 freinds all of whom are in my car(4 total + 3 sets of clubs) when this Mazda 6 comes flying up beside me and we have to stop for a red. Well I look over and I see that it is one guy by himself and and i tell my freinds that if for some reason i don't beat this guy it is because I have all of them and there **** in my car. So I rev a bit to see if he is interested and he rev's back. Well when that light turn green all I can say is that my freinds where laughing because the guy in the 6 got smoked! I did not even luanch that well( little bit of spin) and a full car and I still smoked this guy, and it was not even close. I had 3-4 cars lengths over him in just over a quarter mile.
All I can say is that thank god i did not wait for the 6 to come out when i was buying a car. I was seriously considering it. Oh yeah, the 6 had all these blue lights on it and its wheels even lit up when the turned so it was nice to walk him.
Anyway, My 3 freinds where in awe of my max and it felt great, so not only did I win at golf I won that too.

Are you 6spd or auto? is he auto or stick?

I test drove the Mazda 6 both the 4 banger and V6. The V6 had enough power to go around town, but it doesn't have the torque like our VQ35DE, the engine response was sluggish, I hit the peddle, it took like 1 full second before the car start to go! I give prop for the suspension work on that car, much better than my stock SE suspension. Btw, I test drove the 5spd automatic w/ autoshift.

If he's was a stick and you are auto w/ the 3 friends and 3 sets of clubs, I think it would be a "closer" race, but you would probably still beat him. Dunno by how much though, just my 2cent.

Yes, Mazda 6 isn't though. its a 220HP 3.0L Duratec engine tuned by Mazda. (Now with Variable Valve timing)

the turbo Mazda is called the MazdaSpeed Protege, 2.0L Turbo w/ 170HP. (T25 turbo, which isn't that impressive) but I can imagine it to be easily tuned for extra HP since its TurboCharged.

There are lots of complaints about extremely laggy electronic throttle control on that car. Also, there is a very nasty torque hole below 2700rpm. I think it has swirl control valves that partially block up the intake manifold.

Sweet car, Just not enough power. Nissan, Honda, and even Toyota are seriously overpowering Mazda.

You're thinking of the new Mazdaspeed Protege which has 170hp turbo'd.

I have 6 speed. All i know is that it was not as tight a race as I thought it would have been. But i do like the look of that car.

yeah, the Mazda 6 isn't going to have the get up and go you have, but suspension comparison isn't really comparable. The Mazda 6 handles much better stock then a Maxima.

Things will get interesting though if they put Ford's forthcoming 3.5 liter V6 in it:

Both Ford and GM have 3.5 liter V6 engines coming...

GM making a new engine?!?!? That's a first. I am sure it will be just as sloppy and slow as everything else they produce.

Yep, the info about it is buried in this plant announcement:

I'm not so sure of this bro. The LS-1 is a world-class engine, as is their inline six cyllinder they use on trucks. The new V6 is a clean-sheet design (as if the Ford engine). The Ford engine will have variable intake and cam profiles. Looks like both GM and Ford are tired of getting their butts kicked in the engine technology department.

I'm on my 3rd VQ engine now, and my first 3.5. I know I'll be flamed for saying this, but The VQ35 is unspectacular to me (yes, I know about all those Ward's Auto 10 Best wins). It's not nearly as silky smooth as the VQ30 is/was.

My sis just picked up an automatic V6 Mazda 6 a couple weeks ago. Im gonna have to agree with everyone else that it is kinda lacking in the power department. The throttle response is very sluggish and it really has no torque at all. THe handling and braking on the car is pretty nice tho and it is a nice looking car.

Yeah Mazda 6 did some things right, others not...

My co-worker/friend has a 6... I like the dual exhaust look in the rear and their headlights are almost as nice looking as the 2k2-2k3 Max Xenons...

But the torque is a killer, I know it gets like 220 hp but the torque is down in the 190+ range...

Oh well... The suspension is nice too...

U want smooth? get an electric car! nothing is smoother than my grandfathers '95 GLE auto- but then again its not rockin ~255hp/246lbs/torque

By the way the new 3.5 V6 from chevy will appear first on the '04 Catera
w/ available 6-speed/variable valve tech @ 255 hp

I test drove an AT Mazda 6S, and while the suspension was sporty/firm, the power just wasn't even close!
