I love it. I was driving through a local town here in GA and what do I see pull out of a restuarant ahead of me? A 97-98 Black cobra getting on it from the eatery. I am cruising up next to him after he is going the speed limit and he doesn't try to keep pace with me. I drive along for a couple of miles but at a slower pace hoping that he would want some of this but he leasurely cruises right pass me. At the light where I am supposed to turn off to go to my house I decide to turn off and go home. This road has a long straight stretch of road perfect for a little late night fun, yet I am disappointed he would not go for the bait. As I get into the turning lane I see him heading that way also. YES! Now if he would only get on it down this wonderful road we can have some fun up to about 60-70 before I shut it down. I put my AT into 2nd to make sure that I will be into boost when I come out of the corner. I hear him hit down on it and I nail it and am instantly into boost. I had to let off b/c he second guessed whether or not I was going to go, but needless to say I am right there in his rearview mirror. He guns it and the chase is on. I power through second gear pulling on him strong and am nearly polishing his bumper as I move to indicate that I could easily pass him. He is going all out and I could easily walk him from behind. I lay off and keep pace with him until I hit about 70 and I hit my flashers to let him know that it is over. He kept on going for a little while trying to reclaim a lost battle so I let him go. Later on down the road I flashed a couple more times and put on my signal so we could pull over and talk but he didn't want to have anything to say to me. He just kept on going. Man that was beautiful. Easily polishing a Cobra's bumper and he can't do anything to shake me. What a wonderful feeling! Chaulk up another one for SC'ed Maxima!

my experience tonight

i figure ill tack mine in here...

was cruising around town looking for imports didnt find any so i take i-205 north, and theres a red eclipse following me. were pacing each other bout 70, just passin the traffic. 205 merges with i-5 past my house but i stay on it to see what he wants to do. it goes 3 lanes hes in left im in middle, i punch it go to bout 100 and see that he isnt chasing, so i slow down...right when i get next to him he takes off so i punch it and were commin up on traffic doin 90 so i dive in the left lane once we clear the traffic i jump back in the middle still pacing him at around 80-90 then he just slows down, we hit some more traffic so i get behind him...at this point im thinking he isnt trying to race hes just trying to get away from me so i give it one more shot pull up next to him and punch it, he doesnt flinch so i take the next exit which is about 10 miles past my exit ;( roll home bumpin some jay-z and here i am

peace, casey

Maxirma-

The Z28 was playing with you because you're a girl and you probably had a car load of friends. Seriously though, why IN THE HELL are you street racing when you're a mom? The second I have a kid, my days of street racing a DONE. Hell, I hardly street race (only when the track is closed for the season). Be careful...

I think he came from some Honda board and now he is talking rice. He needs to leave it with the Hondas and grow up. There is no way he will hang or beat.

No diggity....B to the S....how in the hell do you plan to run 12's all motor....are you going to gouge the interior? or implant another engine into the maxima, even if you redid displacement I high doubt you would be doing quarter miles faster than a vette's all motor...good luck bub

without an S/C, Turbo, or NOS please enlighten us all how do you plan to hit 12's

i think someone has been inhaling more care car product fumes than i have

I'd like to run a BOOSTED maxima.....

That would be hmmmm, interesting. We'd both roll from a 5mph. cause you'd have boost and I'd have some traction. or whatever.

My Best 13.73 @ 105.3mph.
my car weighs 3673lbs with me and a half a tank of gas.
with that MPH I should be running 13.20s, but I like my STIFF suspension too much to be drag racing all the time. COBRAS just don't go straight; they turn too. lol. I guess they turn. ha'.

I had a staged out race with a 97 GT 5spd with gears,chip and K&N

This was against my 95 5spd max with intake,denso,Y-Pipe,RT cat,CatBack,UPRD ECU, Alloy Flywheel,Stage II clutch. Well anyways the Mustang owner was a smack talking friend so we went on a Street that is a huge 1 way straight away with no traffic. I had another friend stand out side and flag us on. The result was him taking 2 car lengths on me from the start but by the top of 2nd {67 mph} we were nose to nose, next I smacked it into 3rd and just walked him by about 5+ car lengths up to 100 MPH {in 3rd}. The Mustang owner new my Max was quick and that it would be a great race but it turned out to be some what of a slaughter in the end 70+MPH. All in all I came to the result that a Mustang Cobra has a mean buttom end but lacks a strong top end.

While I am at it I should metion a race I had with a 87 Z28 5spd that my friend was driving VS my {stock at the time} 95 Max. The race took place at the simalar spot and I had a flager. In short it was a very close race which ended up it my favore 3 times in a row. Each time we raced to about 80mph hour and I beat him by about 5 feet each time.

I can't wait until my I30 gets it's SC installed, It will be a lot of fun!!!

Re: I had a staged out race with a 97 GT 5spd with gears,chip and K&N

Which is it? In you "Post Subject" you said you raced a GT, then you said near the end.....<b>"All in all I came to the result that a Mustang Cobra has a mean buttom end but lacks a strong top end."</b> It's just the opposite. besides all cars can run a 100mph+ these days. it just takes some more time to get there. DOHC COBRA motors rev high, they have little low end TQ.
SO did you beat a GT or a COBRA?

Stock COBRAs (96-98) run a 13.99 @101mph stock as advertised and proven by me several times in my 97 COBRA. Now I used to have a 97 GT, and the best a magazine could tell me was that it ran a 15.30@89mph. I bested that with a 15.13 @91mph. That GT was a TIRD compared to my COBRA. Same car same chassis, same body, differnt motor and cosmetics. The difference between these two cars in straight line performance is very obvious. We are talking a 1.31 second difference in the 1/4mi.,(that a life time in dragracing) and a 12mph difference in mph in the 1/4mi.; which is consistent wiht the 90HP differencre and 15lbtq difference. I hate to say it, but all I can only muster with my sorry shifting, and lack of desire to punish my FORD COBRA, all I can get is a 13.73 @ 105.3mph. The reason for my pathetic numbers is this.. I shift like a GRANMA'; ask Russ2kSE about that; and I have so much Road Race suspension bolted on, that my car barely transfers weight. Now don't get me wrong; I don't want to discredit those MAXIMA owners that have put a "smack down" on a COBRA or a modded GT, but lets be honest; Was that a GT or a COBRA or a FOBRA(fake COBRA)? Now if you'd like to come to South Texas and shoot the breez, and get a few runs with me, then thats kool. I'll show you all my secrets first, then we'll race. I'm honest man, and on the street I don't play games. If I lose, I'll be the first to say so. Don't bother telling the world that you beat me, cause I'll be first. Then I'll grab some cash and get the parts so it won't happen again.
Nice RIDE BTW.
LATEZ

Just wanted to add; Any DOHC 5speed maxima with a few goodies or stock for that matter, should be tormanting GTs easy. Literaly walking them down and out. Even an auto MAXIMA. 96-98 GTs in stock or slightly modded trim are not that fast. I know I had one. Funny story... This 98 GT with about $5000 in Supercharger and all kinds of stuff, even a custom dyno tune. He says he dynoed 330ish RWHP. So we raced, and at 120mph, that car could not pass me, nor could I pass it. we were tied, and I mean tied bumper and bumper the whole way. Two times we raced, same outcome both times. Just goes to show the limitations of starting with 215hp in a very heavy car. Now the 99-2001GTs those cars are turning out 13.90s at about 99-101mph. Scary how 260hp and 300TQ can compete with a 97 COBRA. My hands are full with them some times.
Thanks for reading.

My bad it was a GT, and it was real because,

it's my friends car and I checked it out and all. Not to mention if it was a 97 V6 I would have completly destroyed it since the old V6's are sloooow! BTW I am going to have to pass driving down to Texas from R.I. But when my SC is installed it whould be a good race. I will run at a track in N.H. this Spring and gut some stuff out of my car and run my stock 16's and hopefully do a mid to low 13 second 1/4 mile.Time will tell.

Definately possible. Get that SC and give some N/A COBRAS (even a few heavy modded ones) a beat down. Truly.
I just ordered some suspension stuff, softer springs, and Lower Control arms for the COBRA, hopefully we can get under a 13.50. but my MPH is HOT! for 281 cubes and near 340hp I like it. I like to have a maxima that was faster, but Oh well.
