I hear a ticking/clicking sound from my engine

I can hear a clicking ticking sound from the top of my engine. It drives fine, nothing unusual. MPG is a little low (19-20), but thats what I get driving in the city all the time. Car only has 39000 miles on it, and I don't drive it hard all the time, only few times I revved the engine to 5000 RPM. I have new oil and the level is fine.
Also I heard this sound when engine was idling, can't hear it while driving or revving. And I use 91 octane fuel.

Do you have the same sound in your 2000 maximas?
If its a problem, where is it?

Thank you for your input.

it's probably the valves, and it's probably been happening the whole time and you just now noticed it.

nothing to worry about (IMO)

Check your fuel injectors. Valves should not be a problem @ 39k miles. Just dump a bottle of Techron in it and fill it up 3/4's of the way with the best gas you can find. I know the manual tells you not too, but it also says our filter filter is lifetime and plugs are good for 100k mi......If it doesn't quite down after that tank of gas, I would be worried. Peace_

It is normal for a Nissan to sound this way. It is the valves and injectors.

Thank you for the reply! I knew I can count on you.

HondaKilLR -- I will clean my injectors next time I fill up gas tank. Thanks for the advise.

Hmmm.....are you certain it's ticking because you could be driving a bomb strap to your car, hehehe. I have not had that noise on my Max. It's probably normal when it's idling.

I had it on my car and it turned out to be my engine coming apart from detonation...of course I was boosting.
Try what they said above, if that does not work try a compression check.
