3rd gear grinding story continues...

Well, after waiting 6 days for my dealer to contact Nissan-California to learn how to fix the verified 3rd gear grinding my '02 has, I called up NNA. They contacted my dealer, and the service manager is going to a meeting next week with a "DST" - District Specialist Tech (I think), and there, he will learn how to address the issue. Can you believe this!!?? Why all this beauracratic crap??!! Just fix my car!!! Its got 7,000 miles on it, and is 15 months old. I know a member here who has gone thru 3 trannys, and his dealer had CA ship them a brand new tranny. (Twice I guess). I urge you guys with grinding noises to call NNA, and make your case. If switching fluids yields a "less grind", that is no solution, this is a brand new car!! What happens after the warranty expires, and the tranny really acts up? I did not switch fluids, why should I? Clearly there is a tranny problem here, and Nissan HAS to fix it! Man, its my first brand new car ever, and I can understand malfunctions, but this "calling CA, then the DST meeting" is BS.

If anything positive can come out of this, its hoping that Nissan is aware of this problem, and may have a meeting on it to address it at a more involved level. (Or are they just BSing me)?

Anyway, feedback as always is appreciated guys. Thanks for listening.

Regards,

ShysMax

I have to agree, go to a different dealer or just wait it out. In the end, they WILL fix your car, it's just a matter of waiting it out and not showing them that you get mad. My dealer had to do the same thing, call NNA, wait for a callback oh and one day they were in "meetings" all day, I'm talking ALL DAY and supposedly you couldn't reach NNA so I had to wait an extra day.

Yes, they have had Cali send 2 new trannies to me and I'm really pleased and amazed at how quickly my dealer resolves my issues, they have been very good sports about all this.

Once again, patience is a virtue learned only through practice so wait it out, they'll get you a new one soon enough.

G'luck, message me with any other questions or concerns.

How often did you get a 3rd gear grind. My 2k2 has 33000 and it grinds once every 15 times going into third. I am conscience of this and I am careful but it still happens, can you explain your situtation a little further, Thanks.

Vader, sure, here's the deal. Every time I shift at or around 3,000, third gear grinds. U can hear/feel it, and it's bad. Now, what's interesting is that it takes about 20 mins. of driving for this to happen. After warm up, third is fine. But after about 20 mins. is when EVERY shift at/above 3,000 is GRRRR noise. The mechanic at Nissan said usually, its the opposite, (grinds when cold). But not in this case.

Now, I have experienced that if you clutch, then wait a sec., and then shift into third, she is SMOOTH! But why should we have to do this?!! Its gotta be syncros or something which is not catching as soon as we are ready to shift, (somethings not synchronizing hence the term syncros I guess).

If you get yours every 15 shifts, I envy you. Try this, shift @ 3,000 or above, and then see how many grinds you get in 15 attempts. And do it after about 20 mins. of driving. I am convinced something is wrong globally with our syncros. There are too many people here with grinding issues. Even the mags, claim that the 6 spd. is notchy. Notchy is one thing, but Grinding is just plain flawed.

Does the 6th gen. use our tranny? I searched over there, and did not find any issues. I've heard also that the Spec-V uses the same tranny as us? How about the Z??

Vader, Please let me know your test results.

ShysMax,

I will do so and post up, my Max is still under lemon law and bumper to bumper warranty. I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks.
