new owner of 97

As a new owner of an extra clean 97(paid 7,500.00 US or 11,000.00CDN)I have some catching up to do as far as knowing this vehicle is concerned. I am no gearhead but I do know the market place and otherwise need help with tech. info. What is the best way to maximize(no pun) my fuel mileage while increasing power without compromising the original performance of the VQ? Also which shocks provide nice performance stiffness while maintaining some of the characteristic softer smoothness of the original ride? Thats all for now.Thanks.Glad the fires seem to be over in BC.

Screw the mileage unless you have some driving to do with a minimum of 370 miles between chances to fill your tank.

Say you improve your gas mileage from an average of 20 to 25 mpg. Let's also say that you drive 15,000 miles per year. Let's say, gas averages $1.90 per gallon over a given year.

You save a whopping $285 per year/23.75 per month or $0.78 per day. You'd be better off giving up 1 or 2 sodas per day and maximizing your cars performance. If you drive fewer miles the savings are even less. At 10,000 miles per year you're down to $190/yr and $0.52/day. I don't understand all the fuss about mileage. If you're going from 20 to 50 maybe it's worth it but otherwise I just don't get it. Have fun man. You're only here once.

Get a custom-built turbo, buy a buttload of gauges, upgrade your tranny, get sticky tires and enjoy the ride.

If you only want to go with shocks and aren't lowering the car, donate and get access to the search function. You'll more than make your money back in savings and knowledge. And you won't be continuously beat up with comments like mine that tell you to search.

While donating is great, you do not need to in order to access the search. All members can. Enjoy your car!

Shhhhh!!! You're gonna ruin it. Ok, secret's out. At least donate so you can get into OT.

Short answer - buy KYB GR2s and keep your stock springs. While you're at it, change out the dust boots, bushings, etc. If you want to know what to buy and where to buy it - SEARCH. When it comes to install time, if you're doing it yourself and have questions or want to know how much a shop will charge - SEARCH.
