A muffler is looks and sound. No performance. I have a magnaflow and I love it, sounds great at low rpms and looks even better.

What did you gain in hp or torque from the muffler change? How much does the magnaflow cost?I just don't want it to be loud. I still have the stock exhaust except for y pipe.

I recommend you to go to www.magnaflow.com and listen to the v-6 gti they have in the sounds section. Muffler as far as hp goes...I wouldnt expect more than a couple.

OK, after reading numerous threads and opinions and listening to the sound clips from magnaflow's website I seem to get the drift that magnaflow is the muffler to go with.
But which one?
There is probably a number of mufflers that would fit the 4th gen. But which one to go with?
Which magnaflow muffler do you guys have?

his isnt worth 160 bucks dont go with that. I called magnaflow and they said that the gti exhuast system has a 2.5 inch exhuast and the canistor length of the muffler is 18" versus 14" of the most standard models like the one for sale above. I would look into model 14246 if I was you then get a nice tip welded on. Muffler should be about 85 bucks.
If you only want 2.25 inch inlets and outlets get the 14245. Keep in mind that the longer the canistor length the quieter the sound. Shorter is louder. As noted on magnaflows site it doesnt matter if their canistor is round at 14" or oval at 14" both will sound the same. I recommend getting the 18", I hear 14" sounds nice and deep with some minimal drone..adding that extra 4" of muffler should help clear that up. Up to you though.

I think they are all similar for my application. That is I should see a 10 horsepower increase. I was quoted $175 from a local high performance shop for the magnaflow including welding and tips.

Unless you are running crazy boost... you will not see 10HP from any muffler.

I have heard good things about the sound from a 'Dynomax Super Turbo' muffler. They are not at all expensive either.

Do a search on that as well.

How long is a stock muffler? Is it 18"?
