Car just stopped....

My sis was backing out of a parking spot, still in R, and the car just stopped. She turn the off fully and started it up and again, and it worked. Can someone tell what happened and what to do to fix it?

it happens in my 5 spd sometimes, i dunno why, its happened maybe 3 times
