Auto GT's run mid 14's with a good driver @ ~ 94-95mph, so he will probably win. Maybe go from like 20 mph, so the GT has to go from 2nd gear and you can go from 1st. Either way I still think he'll walk you.
99+ Mustang GTs (The more boxy looking ones) have 260hp/305tq and autos run about 14.0 to 14.2. Stock for stock an 02/03 Max couldnt beat one(driver variable excluded). What you guys are thinking of (except jtkz13) are the older than 99 Mustangs GTs which had only 215hp. In that case any 5th gen max should be able to beat it.

if your a 2k i would be Cautious going into battle with the new Mustang GT's .. i have been watching them run and while i dont know who has what (if any of these cars have modifications of any kind) I see them putting up 14.0-14.9 I know thats a big/wide margin of times. But drivers mean alot in this equation. i also can say the power is there with 95-99 mph trap speeds.
Again i dont know much about the GT's but judging those times..i would make sure I could cook up a 14.5 or somekind of mid 14 consistently before I got into a dual with one. Because MOST of these guys will own you and me both ! Good Luck !

bgates, while I know of a couple auto 99+ GT's that have hit low 14's stock, the majority are mid 14's with stock tires and gears. I have a friend who runs extremely consistent 13.8's @ 100mph with a shift kit and cat-back on his auto 01 GT.
The 96-98 GT auto's are dog's, however. Even with exhaust I had a friend who couldn't hit 14's. His best was like 15.0 @ 93mph, which is what a 2k Max 5 speed with some mods would probably run.
The 99+ have a much better top end than the 96-98's, and can run high 13's bone stock with a 5 speed and excellent driver.

i read all the post and will just leave this here for info or who knows what..thought the thread was about the new horses !! give me more time ..im going to whip me one soon enough !!! lol

the Gt doesnt have much torque after 2nd or 3rd gear... maximas do
so if u want cruise with him on 2nd and for sure you'll take him
i'm sayin this out of experience... my cousin got a Gt and the only way i can win is this

Yeah, but you're not normal
2 weeks ago, coming from a soccer match, one of the guys i play with who drives a 2k2 auto mustang GT came up from behind me at 40mph and lined up with me and started smiling. I know he was game because he's always trying so this time i took the bait; dropped it in 3rd and we went for it. He put a car on me off the bat, but when i shifted in 3rd i started gaining. By the end of the 3rd i was about 3/4 of a car ahead of him then we shut it down. He was racing because the following week we talked about it and he was suprised how fast my family car was.
I have raced pioneer's 2k 5spd max a few times when he had the ypipe, catback, and intake. From a roll the 5speed is faster than the 2k2+, no questions about it; so you'll beat the auto GT if he's stock and from a roll. No question. Once you're in 3rd and getting close to the top end you'll just pull away from him and it'll be even worst if u continue all the way in 4th. 4th gear on the 5spd tops out at 136mph or something right?

I've raced a 2k2 GT 5 speed and a 96 GT 5 speed. The 2k2 GT was dead even overall (he pulled 3 feet, i'd pull 3 feet) and we both had a passenger. The 96 GT was embarassing for him. I beat him by 1.1 seconds at the strip and neither of us had great launches. But beware of the 2k2 ones, they have some nice power
wade2ksleeper u got the green sleeper? Dang. Make sure u keep that car in good condition or i'll hunt you down. I admire that car because she whooped me since i had my celica and is very well maintained. With a y pipe, catback and PR cai you have a killer car in your hand. Top end in that car is montrous and yes with those mods you can take out a stock 2K2 Auto GT mustang from a roll. He'll get you on the bottom end without a doubt, but just know how to drive your car and you'll pull on him once you're in third, and murder him if u go all the way to end of 4th. Good luck and be safe.

I know you are not racing my Car already in Stock Form

Enjoy man, that car is a pleasure to drive.
no, haven't raced it at all. I'm getting exhaust put on it tomorrow. I love the car. The only thing that has happened to it at all is my sister had a balloon with marker on it on the way home back to florida after buying it from you. The marker smeared on the soon. But it came out so its all good. I love the car and take excellent care of it, thanks for the great car.
For all it's worth, I smoked one five times at the track a month back : I literally let him launch first, and once a few meters behind, ran up to him and walked him.
Of course, I should probably also mention that I got a muffled chirping thingy under the hood

It's been my experience that the auto 99+ GTs lay down better times then the 5 speeds simply because most drivers get throttle happy. The 99+ 5 speeds a generally about .2 and 2mph faster than the autos. Once you add a higher stall converter, the autos take the nod.
At my track STOCK 5 speeds run about 14.4-14.6@98mph and the STOCK autos are consistently 14.6s@95mph. The convertibles seem to be substainially slower due an extra 120lbs of weight (power top, lots of chassis bracing) and horrendous aerodynamics above 70mph (yes, convertibles with the top up have lots of drag). The two convertibles I've seen run were in the 14.7-14.8@94mph range (5 speed and one auto).
Overall, I think the hardtop GT's (auto/5 speed) topend is better than any stock Maxima. They're typically .5 and 2mph+ faster than the 3.5 Maxima 6 speed (14.8) and G35 sedan (14.7) auto that race at my track.

Hey guys,
I have been to the track with a bunch of other max's and I have a couple runs against 4.6 GT Mustang's / 98 and 00.
If my brother was able to record some of my runs, I was able to beat them. Not just once but twice.
The best run that I had so far was 14.4 this whole year.
That's with only an Injen intake and my timing advance.
Honestly, I have ran my car a total of 36 runs this whole year.
You can ask some of the guys on the org who live in the Chicago land area who came with me to the track. The Byron race track is the best track to get "A LOT" of runs in. The most that I ran in one day is 15 times, within 3 hours and I actually took a break to watch other cars run.
If you have a 6speed 3.5 max, you should be able to take a 4.6 GT mustang at the light. If you have a 5 speed 3.0, you are going to need a little bit more mods.
